Rugby League
On Thursday 19 October, 17 students travelled to Inverell for an under 16’s rugby league 9s competition. 5 girls and 12 boys competed.
Our girls combined with Glen Innes and Inverell players to vs Moree. The girls played with skill and strong defence. Ava Mitchell was awarded the Girls player of the Carnival.
The boys came 2nd overall after only losing 1 fixture game then going down in the final to a very good Glen Innes team. All players played extremely well and did themselves, the school and their family proud. Thank you to Mr Cook & Mrs Cooper for taking them.
Girls Cricket
On Wednesday 25 October 2023 the Tenterfield High School girls open cricket team played a 30 over game against Armidale Secondary College at Newling Oval, Armidale in hot, smoky conditions. Tenterfield played one player short due to the late withdrawal of 4 players. A big thank you to Amelia Robertson and Bailee Stuart to filling in at short notice.
Armidale won the toss and elected to bat. At the end of their 30 overs, Armidale had scored 1/219, thanks primarily to NSW State player Sophie Parsons who scored an unbeaten 105no. Olivia Merchant was impressive with the ball, bowling 6 overs and taking 1 wicket for just 21 runs. Olivia clean-bowled the Armidale opener for 14. Adele Butler was also had an excellent bowling spell, conceding 30 runs off her 6 overs. Opening bowler Ellie Merchant bowled with some nice pace and went for 42 runs off her 6 overs. Ava Mitchell and Amelia Robertson both bowled 4 overs for 38 runs, Holly Stains 3 overs for 22 runs and Bailee Stuart 2 overs for 19 runs. There was an improvement in wides and no-balls since our first game against Glen Innes.
In reply Tenterfield scored 5/126 off their 30 overs. Opener Olivia Merchant remained unbeaten on 39no off 27 deliveries, including two 4s. Olivia has opened the batting for Tenterfield against both Glen Innes and Armidale and remained not out on both occasions, scoring 81 runs in total. Congratulations Olivia. Dell Butler offered Olivia great support at the crease and also remained unbeaten on 16no with one 4 in this total. Other contributors were Ava Mitchell with 10, opener Aliza Latta with 4 and Ellie Merchant with 4. Well done to Jayda Hill with 2 and Bailee Stuart with 1 for scoring their first runs in cricket.
Aliza and Jayda shared wicket-keeping duties and both were impressive behind the stumps. It’s a tough job in hot conditions!
Many thanks to Roxanne Bancroft-Stuart for driving the team bus and doing a remarkable job scoring once again.
Well done to the Tenterfield girls for their excellent team spirit, sportsmanship and improvement in skillset in their two games.
