From the Principal & Assistant Principal

We are getting closer to the end of Term 1, with only 4 weeks remaining and still many upcoming opportunities for our students, including Year 3 Camp, Year 1/2 Water Safety program, our first whole school Housemates activity for Harmony Week and our Colour Run Lap-a-thon.
4 - 6 House Athletics Carnival
Thanks to Sharon Connell for her careful co-ordination of our Year 4-6 House Athletics Carnival. The weather held up and all students were able to participate in various athletic events throughout the day. Without the support of our Year 4-6 teachers, Education Support staff and fantastic band of volunteers this event would not have been possible. Students received their ribbons prior to assembly yesterday and will be notified soon if they have progressed through to the next level in their event.
Clean Up Australia Day
Our Year 6 Environmental leaders ran a successful Clean Up Australia Day last Thursday and all our students participated by cleaning up our school grounds. Keeping our grounds tidy is important to us at Woodend Primary School and we work hard to ensure our students meet our value of ‘Be Responsible’ by taking pride in our school environment. The leaders then worked with Nicole Middleton (our Community Garden Co-ordinator) to sort and calculate which class had collected the most rubbish, they were supported in this by our Year 6 Maths Leaders. Congratulations to 3MC and 5/6M.
NAPLAN
Next week our Year 3 and Year 5 students will commence their NAPLAN testing period on Wednesday. They will start with a Writing assessment, which will be handwritten for the Year 3’s and completed on an electronic device for the Year 5 students. Any students who are absent for any of the tests are able to participate in catch up tests until Monday 23rd March. Information about NAPLAN was sent out to Year 3 and Year 5 parents several weeks ago via Compass.
Parking around the School
As per the Compass notification last Friday, the local Police have advised that they will be patrolling parking around the school grounds both before and after school. They have received complaints from concerned members of our community about unsafe practices. They will be handing out fines to anyone who is parked illegally.
School Council Annual Report and Meeting
Thanks to parents who have nominated for positions on School Council, nominations have now closed. We received the right number of nominations and have filled all available positions, with no election being required.
Our first meeting of the new school council will be held on Monday 16th March at 7pm, please note that all parents/guardians are invited to attend for the presentation of our Annual Report. During our first meeting, positions of responsibility will be elected, these include President, Treasurer and Secretary.
We are looking forward to the final few weeks of term 1.
