Principal's Message 

Dear parents, carers, students and staff

The year is progressing quickly!

There are only a few weeks of instruction remaining for our Year 12s before they complete all their SAC assessments and begin preparing for final exams or presentations. On behalf of the entire University High School community, I wish our students luck in the home stretch of their secondary school journey.

Progress reports and parent-teacher conferences are just around the corner for all our students. I remind parents and carers to be on the look out on Compass for the link to bookings. A reminder that the new 2026 progress reports include a recommendation from teachers regarding parent teacher conferences. Families are welcome to make bookings with any teacher, however if a teacher has recommended a conference, it is important that an interview is booked whenever possible.

School production – Freaky Friday

Congratulations to the cast, crew and staff involved in the 2026 musical “Freaky Friday”. More than 100 students acted, played in the band, or worked backstage to deliver a fantastic show. A lot of laughs, an energetic ensemble, a tight band, and standout performances from the main cast all contributed to a highly enjoyable evening. Thank you to all the staff who worked tirelessly this year to produce another successful musical for our school. In particular I would like to congratulate Kate O’Callaghan as director, our production manager Lachlan Ridge, musical director Keishel Lee, and Cameron McCormick for sets, props and the lighting design.

Physical improvements

The Student Wellbeing centre has been renovated and centralised in the East Wing of our heritage building. This means students now only need to visit one area of the school to receive wellbeing support, rather than the numerous areas used previously. We look forward to additional improvements to these areas in the coming months.

For the first time in many years, we have (almost!) no temporary fencing around the school grounds. As I write this report the last of the fencing is being removed from the Technology Building. The school certainly feels cleaner and has significantly more recreational space available for our students now. Alas, this will not be for long. An 18-month renovation project of Sharman Hall will begin before the end of the year. This work is well-overdue and should guarantee the viability of this fantastic facility for another 70 years.

Planning for the maintenance program for our sports fields is well underway with works beginning in the September school holidays. This work will lead to progressive upgrades over the next 12 months, and I draw your attention to the 2026 levies list that provides an opportunity for families to contribute directly to this important work. While the Sports Field fund is not tax-deductible, these improvements are one of the highest-priority capital improvements the school is looking to complete next year, and I commend you all to consider making a donation.
