Sandibald House Arts Portrait Competition 2026
The ADT Domain was delighted to celebrate the return of the Sandibald Arts Portrait Competition, with this year’s event proving to be even bigger and better!
The Sandibald is an important way for the ADT Domain to support our College House System and strengthen students’ sense of belonging and connection to school. It also provides a valuable opportunity for our talented young artists to showcase their creativity, have their work recognised and contribute to their House through the Arts.
The lunchtime exhibition was held at the Innovation Centre and brought together students, staff and members of our school community to celebrate the creativity and talent of students from Years 7–12. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the exhibition, food and live music, creating a vibrant atmosphere and a genuine sense of community.
The exhibition featured an impressive collection of portraits across a variety of media, showcasing the originality, technical skill and individual style of our students.
We were privileged to welcome local artist and Sandringham College parent Jessica Watson-Thorp as our guest judge. Selecting the winners was certainly not an easy task! Jessica carefully considered each artwork’s creativity and originality, technical skill, expression of the portrait theme and overall impact. We sincerely thank Jessica for generously sharing her time, expertise and thoughtful feedback with our students.

Every student who entered also earned valuable points for their House. After the competition and winner points were combined, Carr House claimed the overall victory with 125 points, narrowly ahead of Williamson House with 120 points. Hollands House finished with 115 points, followed by Coppersmith House with 75 points.
Congratulations to all our award recipients and to every student who submitted a portrait. The quality and diversity of the entries made us incredibly proud, and it was fantastic to see so many students contributing to the creative life of our College.
A very big thank you must go to the ADT staff, who went above and beyond to support the competition and lunchtime celebration. Special thanks to Joanna Pham for stepping up and taking a leading role in organising the judging and preparing the displays. We also thank Tim Clifton, Scott Hobson for lunchtime music featuring Year 12's playing live music and Jason Broomhall and the VM crew for their wonderful BBQ.
The success of Sandibald demonstrates the important role the Arts can play in building school connectedness, celebrating student achievement and creating opportunities for students to feel seen, valued and proud of their talents. We look forward to seeing this wonderful event continue to grow in the years ahead!
Upcoming ADT Annual Art Exhibition
We are also looking forward to the ADT Annual Art Exhibition, which will be held at the Holloway Campus on the day after the Melbourne Cup public holiday. This much-anticipated annual event will feature VCE student work from across our Visual Arts subjects, alongside a showcase of artwork created by our talented Year 7–9 Art Academy students. We warmly invite families and members of our College community to join us in celebrating another outstanding year of creativity and achievement. Please look out for further event details via Compass.
