Legally Blonde Wrap-Up

With a cast of 91 students on stage and 29 behind the scenes in the crew, 'Legally Blonde' was a wonderful success bringing the world of Elle Woods to life for 7 sold out performances!

WHAT THE PERFOMING ARTS CAPTAINS, ZARA BEHREND and PAMELA WELSH, HAVE TO SAY… 

Where to even begin with the incredibly rewarding task of being this year’s performing arts leaders! Being a part of and getting to help lead the most incredible production, full of truly outstanding performers, crew members and teachers, was such a fulfilling experience. 

We can’t even pretend that we can take any credit for the 

insurmountable amount of effort every single person put into this production, but watching everyone grow into such powerful members of our little community was touching. Getting to know everybody from the very first rehearsal, learning names from marking the rolls and teaching year sevens and twelves alike our iconic warmups was heartwarming to say the least.

We are so so so incredibly proud of the brilliant show put together by the most supportive, hardworking, talented and passionate cast Sandy has ever seen. Snaps for all and we are so excited to work with (or come back and watch!) all of you again next year.

MUSIC CAPTAINS: JONTAE LAW and SIERRA RUBIN…

As music leaders we led traditional Sandy warmups with our full cast every rehearsal with our Performing Arts Leaders and Year 12s. These fun warm up games have been passed on through the years within the theatre community at Sandy College. They help form stronger bonds between peers and create such a fun environment at rehearsals! It’s amazing to watch all year levels get together and create something so special, and it’s been a pleasure as music captains to be able to lead them.

And the DANCE CAPTAINS: ARLIA PEIRCE and EMILY STEWART…

Being Dance Captains and getting to be a part of the production for Legally Blonde was such a rewarding experience and something we were really proud to be a part of. We had the opportunity to help choreograph two numbers, which allowed us to be creative and work closely with the cast to bring the choreography to life. Being Dance Captains also meant supporting and encouraging the dancers throughout rehearsals, while making sure everyone felt confident with the choreography. It was such a great experience to see all the hard work, energy and dedication from everyone come together on stage. We are so proud of what we achieved and loved being able to share our passion for dance with the cast and crew!

And how the CAST described the show....

Josh KINNER-GEORGE (Year 7) - One word that I would use to describe Legally Blonde is ‘lively’.

Emily PETERS (Year 8) - One word, well two actually, to describe Legally Blonde is ‘energetic’ and ‘fun’. 

Alexander MARINELLI (Year 9) - My one word is definitely ‘energetic’.

Remus Mortimer (Year 10) - The one word I would use is ‘groundbreaking’.

Charlie NOLAN (Year 11) - If I were to describe Legally Blonde the musical in one word, it would probably be ‘phenomenal!’

Caleb HUGHES (Year 11) - ‘Energetic’ is the word that comes to mind with the cast going above and beyond to make this musical exceptional!

Rachel TUSIA (Year 12) - ‘Spectacular’ is one word I would use to describe the show Legally Blonde.

2027 Instrumental Music Enrolment

Enrolments for our 2027 Instrumental Music & Ensemble Program are now open! Whether your child is interested in learning an instrument for the first time or continuing their music journey, we encourage families to submit a 2027 enrolment application as soon as possible, as places are limited.

Our program offers weekly tuition from specialist music teachers, participation in school ensembles and a range of performance opportunities throughout the year. 

We warmly invite all students in Years 7–12 to be part of our vibrant and supportive music community in 2027!

A deposit is required for each student at the time of enrolment to confirm a place in the program. Enrolments and deposits close on Friday 9th October 2026 (Week 1, Term 4).

Spring Music Soirée 🎟️

Tickets are now available for our upcoming Spring Music Soirée on Wednesday 21 October, the final major ensemble performance night for our Year 7-12 Instrumental Music & Ensemble Program this year! This special evening will showcase the wonderful achievements of our music students across all bands, ensembles and choirs. It’s a fantastic opportunity for students to perform in front of family and friends while celebrating their hard work throughout the year.

Intermediate Bands Festival

On Monday 24th August, students from our College Concert Band and Percussion Ensemble participated in the Intermediate Bands Festival at Brighton Secondary College. Students spent the day workshopping three pieces with professional composers and musicians, gaining valuable insight into the rehearsal process and music industry. Our students demonstrated fantastic focus and commitment throughout a full day of rehearsals. Well done to everyone who represented the College!

Dance Academy

Industry Day 

Years 7-9 Dance Academy students had an amazing day with Industry professionals at our recent industry day incursion. They enjoyed a contemporary workshop with Flynn Dakis, Sandringham College alum, who has recently graduated from the VCA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. Jordan Pollard took the students through a high energy theatre jazz workshop, where he taught tap inspired choreography from the Mary Poppins musical. Jordan is the director and talent behind the innovative company 'The TapPack'. The final session of the day was with physiotherapist, Dr Anthony, who took students through a session focused on building strength to avoid injury. It was a day packed with knowledge and different ways of thinking through dance.

End of Year Showcase Dates

Students and teachers have started work towards the End of Year Showcase, "Stage and Screen". Tickets for the showcase will be released via TryBooking towards the end of this term, please keep an eye out on compass and socials!

Theatre Excursion - 'Mackenzie' at the Arts Centre

In July, The VCE Theatre Studies Class of 2026 went to watch a performance of Mackenzie, by Bell Shakespeare, staged at the Melbourne Arts Centre. Described as 'a hilarious, twisted, and deeply camp reimagining of Shakespeare’s Macbeth,' the students were excited to see what Yve Blake's script would entail. This 'play with songs, set in the dizzying time of 2006' used strong audience interaction, with the class clapping along, laughing at the heavy dose of irony and parodies created on stage of well-known Disney teen stars. Virginia Gay's direction twisted the key theme of ruthless ambition from Shakespeare's original text and explored this through the lens of the cutthroat world of celebrity and the well-known archetype of the intense, overly-dramatic stage mum! 

What the students said: 

It was so much funnier than I expected, really put a fun interpretation onto such a deep story of Macbeth, and I really appreciated their interaction with the audience, especially when Mackenzie sprayed whipped cream in their mouths!! - Zayne Christoforo

It was genuinely one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen, everyone was brilliant. I had tears in my eyes for 80% of the show. - Zara Behrend

I never thought I would watch a Shakespeare retelling with a character named "bertha bumface" but I'm incredibly glad I now have.  It. was. HILARIOUS. - Pamela Welsh

The VCE class were also thrilled to be seated near one of the professional actors they had seen earlier in the year, Joe Kosky, who performed in Stella The Musical (as well as last year's production of The Play That Goes Wrong!). They enthusiastically ambushed him after the show but then politely requested a photograph. As you can see, there was much excitement about seeing a professional theatre maker "out in the wild."
