Vocal Night
On Wednesday evening, students from Years 7–12 lit up the stage with an incredible show for friends and family, showcasing not only their growing vocal skills but also their confidence as performers.
The night featured a wide variety of vocal ensembles, with each group bringing something unique; from different songs and genres to dance moves and even coordinated outfits. A highlight of the evening was when vocal teacher, Dani Fry, made a surprise guest appearance, stepping in to support a Year 9 student so they didn’t have to sing solo. Two of our junior students also took on the role of MCs, gaining valuable experience in crowd work and keeping the evening flowing.
The concert concluded with a powerful performance from the Ballarat High School Choir, who wowed the audience with their renditions of Turn the World Around and Gangsta’s Paradise - complete with three soloists and two beatboxers!
A huge thank you goes to Dani Fry for her outstanding work coordinating the ensembles, the choir, and the event itself. We are so fortunate to have her talents at Ballarat High. We’d also like to thank Jess Quick for her support on the night, helping with raffle tickets for the Performing Arts Support Group.
It was a truly memorable evening, and a wonderful chance to celebrate the talent, hard work, and joy of our students.
Lunchtime Performance
Friday’s sunshine set the perfect scene in the courtyard for a Year 9 - 11 VET Music group to finally share their current setlist with friends and staff. After a few weeks of postponements, thanks to illness and the classic Ballarat weather, it was fantastic to see them take the stage.
This was our biggest setup yet, with two guitarists, bass, keyboard, drums, two vocalists, and almost a full front-of-house system. Students worked brilliantly together to set up and pack down, showing great teamwork and collaboration throughout.
The performance wrapped up with a special guest group who jumped on stage to showcase a piece they’ve been preparing for their Year 10 Exam.
A huge congratulations to everyone involved. Getting up and performing in front of your peers is no small feat, and you should all be proud!
A Night on Broadway
On Thursday, 4th September, Ballarat High School’s family and friends were treated to a magical evening as the Concert Band, Senior Stage Band, staff, and students joined forces to bring the magic (and mischief!) of Broadway to the Robinson Centre Theatre.
The atmosphere was alive with energy as students and staff worked together to set up the evening and even dressed the part in fabulous costumes! Guests arrived to a candlelit, picnic-style dinner while enjoying a showcase of Broadway favourites, from Wicked to Hairspray and beyond.
Highlights of the night included a raffle, first advertised at Variety Night and the Vocal Concert. Congratulations to all winners and runners-up! A special mention also needs to go to Connor Brown, our incredible Year 8 MC, whose confidence, charm, and stage presence had the audience convinced they were watching a future TV personality in the making.
This spectacular night would not have been possible without the tireless effort of Belinda Sileini, whose dedication to organising, conducting, teaching, and performing made the event truly shine. Despite being with us for less than a year, Belinda has already made a huge impact in our music department. Thank you, Belinda, we are so lucky to have you!
