VET Spotlight: Building Skills for the Future

As we move through Term 2, our VET students continue to develop valuable industry skills, gain practical experience, and explore future career pathways through their Vocational Education and Training programs.

VET studies provide students with the opportunity to learn in real-world environments while completing their secondary education. Whether students are studying Community Services, Health Services Assistance, Business, Information Technology, Music Industry, Beauty Services, Electrotechnology, Outdoor Recreation or Cookery, they are developing practical skills that employers value.

Attendance Matters

Regular attendance at VET classes is essential. VET programs are competency-based, meaning students must demonstrate specific skills and knowledge to successfully complete units of competency. Missing classes can result in students falling behind, missing practical assessments, or requiring additional catch-up work.

Students are reminded to:

  • Arrive on time to all VET classes.
  • Notify both the school and training provider if absent.
  • Check emails and learning platforms regularly.
  • Stay up to date with assessments and coursework.

Workplace Skills in Action 💪

VET programs not only teach technical skills but also help students develop employability skills including:

  • Communication
  • Teamwork
  • Problem-solving
  • Time management
  • Workplace safety
  • Professional behaviour

These skills prepare students for apprenticeships, traineeships, further study, and future employment opportunities.

Looking Ahead 🎓

Many VET students are beginning to think about their pathways beyond school. VET qualifications can provide direct pathways into:

  • Apprenticeships and traineeships
  • TAFE qualifications
  • Diploma programs
  • University pathway courses
  • Employment in industry

Year 12 students are encouraged to attend upcoming university and TAFE Open Days during the July school holidays to explore future study and career options.
