Year 10 Students Embark on Work Experience⭐

This week, our Year 10 students have stepped beyond the classroom and into the workplace as they participate in their Work Experience Program.

Work experience is an important part of career exploration, enabling students to connect their interests and strengths with potential future career opportunities.  It also provides valuable insight into the skills, qualifications, and personal attributes for success in different industries.

Students have embraced opportunities across many sectors including retail, healthcare, plumbing, sports and recreation, education, automotive, hospitality and office/administrative roles.

By immersing themselves in real workplace environments, students are developing important employability skills including communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and professionalism.  The experience also allows them to better understand employer expectations and make more informed decisions about their future education and career goals.

🌟We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, maturity, and commitment our Year 10 students have demonstrated while representing our school in the wider community.  Feedback from host employers has highlighted the positive attitudes and willingness to learn shown by many of our students.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the businesses, organisations, and community members who have generously provided placement opportunities and mentorship throughout the week.  Their support plays a vital role in helping students connect classroom learning with real-world experiences.

We look forward to hearing about our student’s experiences when they return next semester.

Why Year 12 Students Should Attend Open Days These July Holidays

The July school holidays provide Year 12 students with one of the most important opportunities of the year – attending university and TAFE Open Days.

With VTAC applications, course preferences, and post-school decisions approaching quickly, Open Days allow students to move beyond websites and brochures and experience campuses firsthand. Students can explore facilities, tour classrooms and accommodation, speak directly with lecturers and current students, and gain a clearer understanding of the courses they are considering.

Attending an Open Day can help students:

  • Confirm whether a course or campus is the right fit.
  • Compare different universities and TAFEs.
  • Learn about entry requirements, prerequisites, and pathways.
  • Discover scholarships, early entry programs, and support services.
  • Gain confidence in making informed course and career decisions.

For many students, visiting a campus can either reinforce their first preference or open the door to exciting opportunities they had not previously considered. It is also an excellent chance for parents and carers to ask questions and better understand the transition from school to further study.

Year 12 students are encouraged to attend multiple Open Days during the July holiday period and throughout August. Even students who are undecided about their future plans will benefit from exploring the wide range of study and training options available.

For example, Swinburne University - Course and Career Week.
