Applied Learning

Vocational Education and Training classes (VET)
As Semester One draws to a close, it is difficult to recap everything our applied learners have achieved this year. Student learning in VET studies is well and truly established, with our students exploring a plethora of career pathways. The importance of occupational health and safety was the first unit of competency assessed at VET, preparing our students so well for their structured work placements in VM or work-experience for our Leapsters. Highly valuable learning!
♿️Balloon Football
VCE VM students have been running SCOPE Australia's Southern Balloon Football League throughout Term Two. This one morning a week commitment is a win-win situation, with students and participants in this competitive wheelchair sport benefiting enormously.
Last week alone, a SCOPE representative visited Balloon Footy for the first time, although our Nazareth applied learners have supported this partnership since 2010! She noted that she could see the relationships that participants have established with our students, and that our Nazarenes showed a positive attitude, friendliness, care and concern for all at the stadium. Students have grown in their confidence in not only team management, but also in taking on official duties as umpires and scorers.
This commitment continues across Term Three, culminating in a ripper Grand Final day!
Wonderful feedback from our Learning Support Team - " Sanju and I wanted to share our first experience of Balloon Football. It was heart warming and beautiful to see our students making such a positive difference in the lives of others and doing it with big smiles and positivity. We loved it!"- Deborah Michaud
Work Placements
Feedback from structured work placements has been very commendatory of our young people. This experience one day a week helps cement a commitment to that career pathway, or alerts a student that perhaps that job is not for them and a new VET subject should be selected for 2027.
We are always on the lookout for new work placements, if any parents or siblings wish to mentor the next generation of employees in their field. Please reach out to me if you can offer a placement, either one day a week for a term or semester, OR a one off week placement at a time that suits your business.
Classroom Action
Year 11 A recently held a Spelling Championship! The outright winner being Caden Michael.
Friday sees a full day of applied learning at Nazareth for those who do not have a work placement. Anthony and Ryan recently prepared a lunchtime pasta - Spaghetti alla Napoletana, which was delicious!
Wishing all families a relaxing and warm winter break.
