Maths

In Maths this term we have started a unit on Addition and Subtraction. We have been exploring all the ways that we can pull numbers apart and put them back together, as well as exploring the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ symbols and what these mean in a number sentence. Most students enjoy the support of concrete materials and working out how these scenarios can be converted into numerals in a number sentence. 

We have also dived into a unit on Data and Graphing. The children have enjoyed collecting data from their peers and organising and representing it in a number of ways (tally marks, pictographs, bar graphs, and representing it using concrete materials). This week the children very much enjoyed going outside to collect data on the colour of the cars driving along Hendy Main Road. They worked together to tally the car colours and convert this into a bar graph. The highlight was definitely receiving a few horn honks from the truck drivers driving past! 😊 

Literacy

In Literacy this term we have started our persuasive unit. Students have explored a number of texts including the day The Day The Crayons Quit, The Great Kapok Tree, Hey Little Ant and Earrings (still to come). These stories are being used to explore contentions, arguments and persuasive language. 

In Writing, the students chairs have gone on strike! The students are in the process of writing persuasive letters to the chairs, to convince them to come back or not to come back. 

Humanities

In Humanities we are in the middle of our projects! Students are creating a piece of art relating to a place in Moriac that is special to them. Some students are creating models, dioramas and paintings. They have made great progress and we are excited to see the end result! Thank you to all the families that have brought in resources for the students- we are very grateful!
