Year 3/4

Welcome Back

A huge welcome back to all our students and families to what is sure to be a busy and exciting term. Can you believe we are into Week 3 already?

Literacy

This term, our daily literacy block has had a few changes. Students will be working through 10-15 minutes of handwriting followed by our regular Sounds Write session, fluency and then our Reading and Writing Unit.

Over the next few weeks in our Persuasive writing Unit, students will be participating in a ‘Shark Tank’ scenario, developing and filming a pitch to market and sell a product to an identified audience.

In Reading, the 3/4 cohort have started reading Charlotte’s Web. Students will be revisiting and practising a variety of comprehension strategies and learning new vocabulary through class activities and tasks.

Numeracy

The first 2 weeks of this term, students have been revising their place value knowledge through games and a variety of independent and small group tasks. Over the next few weeks, students will be learning to use a variety of strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems.

Humanities

This term, students will be exploring the topic of Civics and Citizenship where they will learn about the 3 different levels of government, the difference between rules and laws and how these are made, and diversity and identity.

Anzac Day

During our first week back, students created some very thoughtful displays showcasing their knowledge of Anzac Day. Students had in depth discussions about Gallipoli, the Dawn Service and the significance of the red poppy. We then respectfully participated in a whole school Anzac Day assembly.

3-6 Athletics

On Wednesday of last week, our students participated in the Interschool Athletics at John Landy Field against several other schools. Students demonstrated the Moriac school values throughout the day displaying great sportsmanship and participation. Everyone should be super proud of their efforts in all their events, they did a spectacular job.
