Year 5/6

English
To begin Term 2 in English we have incorporated a number of key aspects of reading and writing and spelling. Each day we begin the day with a short language conventions lesson which will focus punctuation, grammar and spelling. Then handwriting and touch typing before moving onto reading and writing activities based on our term mentor text Nevermoor - The Trials of Morrigan Crow. Students have been enjoying engaging with the fantasy novel and have built upon their vocabulary and sentence structure with lessons focused on the book.
Maths
In Maths this term we will begin by learning about the four operations. Students have begun in the first few weeks by focussing on different strategies for addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals and ways that they can build their number fluency and mastery of number facts. Students have been demonstrating their understanding using mini whiteboards and number games to provide a variety of ways to build their understanding of the topic.
Humanities
This term we have begun with a Humanities unit on Digital Technologies. Students have been focussing on the parts of computers and different peripheral systems of technology as well as their purposes. Later in the term we will begin our unit on Economics and Business that will culminate in the Market Day event at the end of term.
Events and Reminders
This term we have engaged with the Blue Light Community Group to run the weekly 'Dash' Program. Students will engage in a community project over the course of the term and hear from a number of services such as CFA and local council.
- We are so proud of our Year 3-6 students for their effort and behaviour when representing the school last week at the District Athletics in Landy Field. We have a number of students win events and progress and are every thankful to the parents who came to assist and cheer on the kids.
