1/2SP Sharing Our Learning

This term we have been exploring the world of Biological Sciences. More specifically, we have been looking at living things and what their basic needs are for survival.

Our unit began by defining what the features of living things are. These are the different parts of a living thing such as arms, legs or eyes. For plants this was a little bit different as they have features such as roots, leaves and stems.

Then we went on to discover that all living things need air, water, food and shelter to survive. We put these pieces of information together to learn how different living things use their features to get these basic needs. For example, we learned that some animals, like frogs, use their skin to help them breathe. And plants have roots to soak up the water from the soil.

After all of that deep thinking and knowledge building, we took a trip to Myuna Farm to put what we had learnt into the real world. At the farm we got to take part in lots of different activities such as the Farm Show, where we saw the different features of animals such as roosters and goats and what their purpose is. We also made our way to the Wetlands by train and got to see the different animals that lived there (mostly fruit bats napping in the trees) because this area met more of their needs than the farm area.

Overall this term, we did a lot of great exploration into what living things need and how they use their various features in order to meet their basic needs.
