Performing Arts

Choir

There are some exciting performance opportunities still to come for our Cavendish PS Choir!

Our next opportunity is South West Sing at the Warrnambool Show on Saturday 31 October. Children under 15 can attend the Show for free.

We have been learning our three songs during class time, Yellow Submarine, Nanuma and Try Everything, and we are looking forward to performing them alongside other young singers from across the region!

I need to confirm final numbers by Monday 21 September, so please let me know if your child would like to take part.

After this, we have another performance opportunity in November, as part of an exciting combined community spectacular at the Hamilton Performing Arts Centre.

Cavendish Primary School is one of three primary schools taking part in the combined choir, alongside Good Shepherd College and Hamilton Alexandra College.

The performance will be held on Sunday 22 November, so please mark the date in your calendar!

Finally, a huge congratulations to our six Cavendish PS choristers who recently participated in the Warrnambool Organ Festival. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to sing alongside other young people their age, accompanied by a live orchestra. What a wonderful experience!

We are so proud of the enthusiasm and commitment our choir members continue to show. We can’t wait to see where these exciting opportunities take us next!

Drama

Our students have begun learning their lines and stepping into character as we prepare for our end-of-term play. It is wonderful to see their confidence and creativity growing each week.

For families wanting to practise at home, these songs may be helpful:

  • Beep Beep I'm a Sheep
  • The Chicken Dance
  • Do the Honey Bee
  • Old Town Road
  • Ghostbusters

With so many fantastic opportunities filling our school calendar, we have moved the performance to early next term.

Tentative performance date: Wednesday 21 October at 6:00 pm

We look forward to sharing this special evening with our school community.

Music

Our Black Belt Recorder Program is well underway, and we are so proud of the progress our students are making!

Congratulations to our Year 3–5 students who received their White Belts last week! To earn their White Belt, students have been working hard to:

  • Play the notes B, A and G
  • Use their left hand correctly
  • Produce a clear, beautiful sound using just the right amount of air — we call these our “angle toots”!
  • Develop their music theory knowledge by identifying and drawing quavers (Titi), crotchets (Ta), minims (Too-oo) and semibreves (Ta-a-a-a), as well as their equivalent rests.

Our Foundation–Year 2 students have also been making fantastic progress and have just learnt the note G this week. They are well on their way to earning their first belt!

Alongside our recorder program, we are continuing to explore rhythm and melody through drumming and playing a range of Orff instruments
