Notes from the Principal

Fundraising Thanks

If you hadn’t already heard, thanks to the work of Carly and Jack Behncke and others, the school has received over $5500 from the sheep drive. We are over the moon with this result. This funding will go towards the many projects we have planned for our playground, including renovation of our retaining walls, establishing an inclusive play space and upgrading our fitness track.

Carly has also secured a donation of compost from Clyde Compost in Melbourne. This will come in very handy in our flourishing Kitchen Garden.  Thanks to Tim Huf for collecting it from Melbourne for us.

Defibrillator

We have purchased and installed a portable automated external defibrillator at our school. It has been erected on the wall at the staffroom door. It is available for public use Monday to Friday 8:30am to 5pm. Please let people in our community know.

OH&S Audit

Last week we hosted an Occupational Health and Safety inspector from the Department of Education. Tammy has been working diligently for months to ensure that our school is up to code. Thanks to her efforts we received a 90% compliance rate, with a few little changes to make to bring us to 100%. Thanks Tam for taking care of all of us.

Coleraine Art and Photography Show

Many thanks to Miss Sartain for providing our students with the opportunity to enter the Coleraine Art and Photography Show. We are incredibly proud of all our students for their wonderful entries, which showcased their artistic skills, creativity and imagination.

Congratulations to Toby Huf and Sybil Young, who both received Honourable Mentions for their work. A special congratulations also goes to Charlie Huf, Nellie Luhrs, Billie Behncke and Sienna Huf, who each took out first place in their respective year levels.

Well done to all of our talented students, and congratulations to our award winners on their fantastic achievements.

Many thanks to the organising committee who came out to visit, congratulating our winners, giving everyone chocolate frogs and donating some fresh fruit and vegetables.

Lightning Premierships

On Tuesday 19th August our Year 3,4 and 5 students travelled to Coleraine to take part in Lightning Premierships. Students were placed in teams to play AFL or netball.

The teams were a mix of students from Casterton, Coleraine, Merino and Cavendish Primary Schools – all members of our Wannon Cluster. It was a great opportunity for our students to mix with their peers and enjoy a day of sport.

Thanks to Miss Sartain for organising this opportunity, and to Kate Thomas and Jade Russell for helping out on the day.

2026 Netball Victoria School Championship

Sienna, Ivy and Maddie had a great day on Wednesday 20th, combining with students from Dunkeld Consolidated School to compete in the Victorian School Championship netball. Mrs Naomie Phillips fed back that the girls were fantastic representatives from our school, and their team is off to the next level in Ballarat!
