Kitchen Garden

This week the weather was pretty wild and wet on Wednesday so not much was able to be done in the garden. Instead, the grade 3s and 4s did some work inside, looking at all the tools we use in the garden; the correct names for them, what they are used for, and how to use them safely. This was partly in preparation for doing a test in future lessons, to get their Tool licence.

We also took a photo of a few of the students with the great wooden plant signs that our local Men’s Shed members kindly made for us. We will send them a certificate of appreciation for their great support.

Year Prep-2s had their turn of food preparation this week, making a very healthy and tasty batch of hummus using chick peas, garlic, lemon juice, cumin, olive oil and parsley. We were fortunate to have lots of lovely fresh carrots, cucumber and celery provided from the Coleraine Art Show. The children again practiced their cutting skills as they chopped them into sticks to dip in the hummus. They also learnt what a mortar and pestle was used for as they ground the roasted cumin.
