Uniform Reminder

All students in the Internal teams, your singlets are now due for return. Please give them to student reception or drop them to Mr Bourke’s office. I will have some available for players to use for their photos tomorrow.

Updated Year 7 Basketball Information – Final Matches This Saturday

All games for this Saturday are now live on Clipboard, so please check the app for your son’s team, game time, and court allocation.

Students should have purchased their Yellow SPX Basketball Singlet from the College Shop for this week’s matches. We will again use the Blue singlets where needed, depending on team colours and match requirements.

Basketball shorts remain optional for this week’s games. Students may wear either the Basketball Shorts or their regular PE shorts.

This Saturday marks the final round of Year 7 internal matches, with SPX playing SPX. Your son’s team allocation may have changed from last week as we have rebalanced teams to create fair and competitive matchups.

Coaches will again be taking notes to establish a baseline for player development ahead of the Term 3 grading process.

Holiday Camps

We are currently finalising details for our upcoming Holiday Basketball Camps. At the moment, we are working around College facility availability, as there are scheduled works taking place during the break that may impact court access and scheduling.

Please stay tuned and keep an eye on Clipboard for updates. Information may appear as early as tomorrow, and at the latest early next week, once we have confirmed suitable spaces and times.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to provide the best possible program for our players.

Cocurricular Photos

Tomorrow, we will be taking Basketball Cocurricular Photos during Period 3. Please check Canvas for the full schedule and specific team times and also the document above

We will only be photographing teams whose photos were not taken at Oxford Falls earlier in the season.

Thank you for ensuring students are punctual and in the correct uniform for their allocated time.

2025/26 MWJCA Cricket Season – End of Season Report

As the 2025/26 MWJCA Cricket Season draws to a close, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to all players and parents who supported the St Pius X cricket programme throughout the summer. Junior cricket is built on the generosity of families who give their time on early Saturday mornings, travel to grounds across the peninsula and northern beaches, and contribute behind the scenes through scoring, umpiring and encouragement from the boundary. Your involvement is what makes these opportunities possible for the students.

Across the season we have seen players grow not only in their cricketing ability, but also in their confidence, resilience and teamwork. While results are always memorable, what stands out most strongly is the way our teams represented the College - playing with integrity, respect for opponents and a genuine enjoyment of the game.

A special acknowledgement should also go to SPX Yellow, who had a fantastic season and progressed all the way to the semi-finals. Reaching the pointy end of the competition is a testament to the effort, discipline and commitment shown by the players and their families throughout the season. The team represented the College with pride and should be very proud of their achievement.

Team Spotlight – SPX U14 Red

Another memorable story from this season came from SPX U14 Red, who finished their campaign in remarkable fashion with two consecutive wins to close the season. These victories were the culmination of a season defined by perseverance and character. The players continued to turn up every week with enthusiasm and positivity, embodying the values of the College and demonstrating that persistence and teamwork ultimately bring their own rewards.

Attached is the U14 Red Team Report, written by Andrew Ward.

Squash

It was a big day for many of our players this week, with competition games followed by backing up at the College for the annual Open Day. It was great to see so many of you giving tours to visiting families, performing in the College bands, and helping wherever needed. We also faced some tough matches against Barker, with results not always going our way.

Game of the week goes to Chris Simpson, who delivered a dominant performance, winning in straight sets. It was a masterclass in how to move your opponent around the court with superior shot selection while maintaining strong positioning in the centre.

A big well done to Pat and Hunter, who found themselves up against what must have felt like a giant. Despite the height disadvantage, they contested every point with determination and composure.

Cameron Giang, as always, fought for every point with his trademark style. Backing up for two matches against Barker’s strongest players, he performed exceptionally well. It was a match that drew a crowd, with everyone admiring his grit and effort.

At Thornleigh, Mrs Hood shared how proud she was of the SPX 2 team. The students continue to improve their tactics and skills throughout the season, and it showed in a very close match.

This weekend is finals week, and I’m looking forward to a big day at Thornleigh with all our teams competing at the same venue for the last round of the season. Thank you to all the parents who consistently get your sons to their games and cheer them on in the right spirit. Please keep an eye on the Squash NSW website for confirmed game times; I will also post them on Canvas as soon as they are available.

Just a reminder that for any reasons you might be absent for training or the game on Saturday its best to try and let me know during the week or if it’s on the day due unforeseen circumstances  to please email me on sspedding@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au

Senior Swimming Squad

On Tuesday, the Senior Swimming Squad competed at the ISA Carnival held at SOPAC. Some outstanding individual swims and many PBs were achieved on the day. Our Junior division came 8th, Intermediates came 7th and our Seniors came 7th, with an 8th placing overall.

Jack Dunk
Jack Dunk

There was one performance that stood out amongst the team. Jack Dunk of Year 9 needed to swim a 28.5 sec for his 50 Butterfly race. He has been trying to get below this time in recent weeks. On Tuesday he swam a 28.18 sec which means he has qualified to compete at the Nationals. This is an outstanding achievement and we wish Jack every success when he competes at the Nationals in the holidays.

This brings our College season to a close. Representative swimming is still active where we will be notified of any ISA representatives in the coming days. Training will recommence in Term 4 when we will compete in the St Patrick’s Invitational Carnival.

NSTA Tennis

Our final game day was met with perfect weather; a fitting way to conclude the Term 1 the Term 1 season. Congratulations to all our St Pius X students for displaying spirit, enthusiasm, and exceptional teamwork throughout the term.

A special thank you extends to our parents for your ongoing support and for ensuring students arrived on time each week. Your collaboration and commitment are truly appreciated.

On behalf of all St Pius X tennis staff, thank you for another successful season. The sportsmanship and resilience our students show each week continue to reflect the very best of what it means to be a St Pius X student. Your energy and commitment helped make this season such a success.

Unfortunately, this will be my final season as NSTA Convenor as I embark on new adventures. I look forward to hearing about students returning to the tennis courts in Term 4!
