Food Bank Victoria - Drivethrough Update - A helping hand when it’s needed most
Foodbank Victoria, a charity with a 96-year history supporting those in need, has just launched a new food drive-thru set to open this week in Melbourne’s southwest.
The best part? There’s no paperwork, no awkward questions, and no need to prove your circumstances.
If you need help, you simply turn up and collect a box of groceries, no strings attached. Dave McNamara, chief executive officer (CEO) of Foodbank Victoria, says demand for help has reached unprecedented levels.
'The pressure on households is unrelenting. If anything, it’s becoming more entrenched, and more people are quietly falling behind,' he shared.
Since the fallout from the Iran war and ongoing interest rate rises, Foodbank has seen a 10 per cent surge in families seeking assistance, many of whom have never needed help before.
'We’re seeing people who are working, raising families, doing everything right, but still not able to keep up,' McNamara explained.
'We’re receiving calls every day from people asking, “What do I do? How do I get food to feed my family?” This drive-thru is about making it easy. No forms, no questions. Just turn up, and we’ll help.'

How does the drive-thru work?
If you or someone you know could use a helping hand, the process couldn’t be simpler.
Just head to Foodbank Victoria’s new warehouse at 441–459 Kororoit Creek Road, Altona, this Sunday between 10am and 2pm.
Volunteers will be on hand to provide a box of groceries—no need to book ahead or explain your situation. It’s all about dignity, respect, and community support.
The drive-thru is designed to remove barriers and stigma, making it as easy as possible for anyone in need to access support. Demand is now soaring to a record 76,000 Victorians a day.
