Mary MacKillop

Today the 8th of August is the feast day of St Mary of the Cross. Mary MacKillop was a remarkable woman, who was born in Victoria to Scottish immigrant parents. Growing up as the eldest of eight children, she faced early challenges, working hard to support her family. At age 24 she dedicated her life to God, becoming known as Mary of the Cross.

Together with Fr Julian Tenison-Woods, Mary founded Australia’s first religious order, the Sisters of St Joseph. Their mission was to educate underprivileged children, and they began their work in a disused stable in Penola, South Australia. Mary and the Sisters were committed to serving the poor, often living among them in remote areas across Australia.

Despite facing many hardships, including excommunication, Mary remained strong in her beliefs and dedicated to her work. She was a true pioneer, and her legacy is evident in the education system we have today. Mary MacKillop's determination and compassion continue to inspire us all.

Tomorrow 5/6 N will be leading the school in a prayer service to celebrate Australia’s first and only saint. The prayer service will be in the Church at 9am and families are welcome to attend.

Eucharist

We are excited to share that our students will be celebrating the Sacrament of First Eucharist on Sunday, August 11th at the 10:00 am Parish Mass in St Martin de Porres Church.

The Eucharist is a central part of our Catholic faith and a special moment for our children. It is a time for them to deepen their relationship with Jesus and to receive His Body and Blood.

We kindly ask for your prayers for Xavier, Sofia C, Olivia, Sofia L, Aoife, Leah, Evan and Gabrielle as they prepare for this important sacrament.
