News from Foundation

Welcome back!

We have had a wonderful start to Term 4 in Foundation! It has been fantastic to see the students return refreshed and ready for another exciting term of learning. We are looking forward to making the most of our final term together as the students continue to grow in confidence, independence and skills. There are lots of fun learning experiences, special activities and exciting moments ahead as we prepare for the end of their first year of school! We cannot believe how fast the year has gone!

Maths

This week in Maths, we have been learning lots about the starting skills of multiplication by making groups of two and three using different materials. The Foundation students made the groups and used the language "_ groups of _" to describe what they had made. This starts their understanding of multiplicative thinking.

Literature- The Gruffalo

This week we started our new Literature unit about The Gruffalo! The Foundations have loved reading this book, and their favourite part is saying 'Gruffalo Crumble!!!!' before the Gruffalo runs away! To start our learning, we created Story Maps of the story to outline the important parts of the story- characters, setting, beginning, middle and end. We then retold the story using puppets, which was so fun to see how expressive they were! Here are some of the videos if you would like to hear a retell!

Literacy Revision

WOW! The Foundation students have blown us away this week with their writing skills!!! They're too good not to share!!!

Play-based Learning

The Foundation students have loved playing in the new areas in the classroom!

What's on for Term 4!

This Term in Inquiry, we are planning on doing a lot of learning about the town of Yarra Junction and about people of a different generation. We are planning on having a Scavenger Hunt excursion and a walk down to Yarra Junction, including visiting the Yarra Junction Museum. We would love to invite parents and carers to join us for the walk and fun day, including a shared lunch at the park to end the day. If you think you would be interested in joining us, it would be great if you could complete the Parent Helper Course and have a current WWCC. Once you have completed these things, you are eligible to help out at school events and on excursions.
