Sports Update

Year 8 Badminton Team Shines at State Championships

Today (12 September), our Year 7/8 Badminton team competed at the SSV State Championships! The team members include: Jessica Voeurn, Vanessa Voeurn, Angelina McKay and Melody Su.

The girls delivered an outstanding performance, winning two matches and drawing one (though losing on points) of their three group stage encounters. Their strong results earned them a place in the semi-finals, where they fought valiantly before narrowly missing out on a spot in the final.

What an incredible achievement, girls! Finishing as one of the top four school teams in the state is a remarkable accomplishment, particularly given we are a small rural school. You represented our school with distinction on the biggest stage and should feel immensely proud of your efforts and sportsmanship.

Special thanks to Mrs Carolyn White for driving the team to Melbourne, ensuring our students could compete at this elite level and experience this fantastic opportunity.

Divisional Athletics

On Friday 5 September, a squad of 46 talented CAGS athletes took to the track and field at the GMDSSV Athletics Carnival, giving it their all and representing our school with the sportsmanship we are so proud of.

We received the official results today and there were some tremendous achievements across a variety of events — both at an individual and team level — with many podium finishes and 15 individuals/teams qualifying for the next level of Regional competition by securing a top-two placing!

Team Results (out of 11 schools):

Female Team: 5th place – 127.50 points

Male Team: 4th place – 243 points

Buroinjin Challenge

Today our Year 8-11 students had a successful day competing at the Buroinjin Challenge in Shepparton.

The Division 1 team made it all the way to the grand final, where they were defeated 7-1 after playing with determination throughout the day. Jeremy Packer was recognised as the Division 1 MVP for his outstanding performance.

Our Division 3 side also reached the grand final but narrowly lost in overtime 3-2 in what proved to be an exciting match.

Tayla Connelly meanwhile earned Division 2 MVP honours for her excellent contribution to the team. With two grand final appearances and two MVP awards, our students represented the school superbly at this competitive event. Well done to all participants for their efforts and sportsmanship.
