Model UN @ Geelong High
On May 13th we took 2 teams of students to participate in a model United Nations General Assembly hosted by Geelong High. This is an immersive experience where students represent a country assigned to them as delegates and go through all stages of a UN conference, to negotiate and debate the other delegates on any changes they wish to make to the draft resolution of the day.
Our students represented Colombia and South Korea to work through a draft resolution on ‘Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development: Harnessing the benefits - Safeguarding Human Rights’. This entailed the students to research their country, what their countries current stance is on the subject and how the resolution would impact them, to then present a 2.5 minute position statement and then negotiate and debate through the day on the changes they wish to make.
There were 6 schools from across the region and 120 students participating on the day. Our students represented their countries with respect and enthusiasm and should be very proud of themselves.
CBCA Book of the year Shadow Judging
Our SCSC student book club has been very busy reading up a storm!
This year our book club made up of students from year 7-12 are taking part in the CBCA Shadow Judging program to vote for the book of the year in the older reader category. We are reading through the 6 shortlisted books to then have our final vote as a group in the first week of August. We have been reading one book every 2 weeks and then meeting to discuss our thoughts on the book given the judging criteria we need to keep in mind while reading.
