A group of our First Nations students and our Koorie Engagement Support Officers, plus some teaching staff were welcomed onto Wadawurrung Country by Wadawurrung woman, Corrina Eccles.
She lead the students through a walk on Country and in a truth telling ceremony about her own family’s experiences of intergenerational trauma and resilience. It was a powerful afternoon, and a potent reminder of the impacts of policy on First Nations people.
We say “nyatne” (thank you in Wadawurrung language) to Corrina for kindly sharing her stories with us and helping our students further develop their own connection to Country.

On the 19th May, two Year 8 girls’ netball teams travelled to Kardinia Park.
Despite a rainy start to the day, both teams displayed excellent teamwork and determination, with SCSC Green defeating Bannockburn and SCSC Purple beating Oberon in their opening matches.
As the weather cleared, SCSC Green fought hard in a close contest against Belmont but were unable to come away with the win, while SCSC Purple went down to Western Heights in a competitive match.
The day finished on a positive note, with both teams securing another victory — SCSC Green defeating Geelong High and SCSC Purple defeating Northern Bay.
All players should be incredibly proud of their efforts throughout the day. They represented the school with positivity, sportsmanship, and determination.
Special mentions go to Willow W. for her outstanding movement on court, Charlee R. and Koa C. for their mid-court defensive pressure, Nynon P. for her leadership and captaincy, and Ruby L. for her versatility to transition effectively between goals and defence.

Congratulations to all of our students who competed at the Geelong Cross Country!
Students represented the school with fantastic effort, determination and sportsmanship across all age groups. A great achievement by everyone involved, and we’re incredibly proud of the way students challenged themselves and supported one another throughout the day. 32 students progressed to the Western Metro Region (WMR) on Monday 25th of May.

10 of Surf Coast Secondary's best surfers headed over to Phillip Island on Thursday 7th May, which coincided with the one of the coldest day of the year to date and a ton of swell!
Fortunately, Surfing Vic found us a protected wave at Cat Bay to hold the inaugural tag team event, and our surfers sure delivered! An amazing display of surfing and team spirit saw SCSC take home the Win 🥇 for the mixed team and a 3rd place for the girls team. SCSC also won the best team sprint award for the support and encouragement they showed each other.
Huge congratulations to our team on a great result in some challenging conditions!

During week 3 of term 2, three small groups of Year 9 Outdoor Education students embarked on a challenging 2½-day hike along part of the Great Ocean Walk covering about 10kms a day. Carrying everything they needed for the journey, students tackled heavy packs, rain, wind, and cold conditions with determination and positivity.
Throughout the experience, they demonstrated the outdoor skills they had developed at school while also showing outstanding teamwork, resilience, leadership, and perseverance. It was fantastic to see students step outside their comfort zones, support one another, and embrace the adventure.

In week 2 of the term, our Year 12 Outdoor Education students spent 4 days exploring Wilsons Promontory.
Their adventure included surfing, an overnight hike and a boat cruise, where local flora and fauna were observed. The highlights were the seals and albatross.
