IDAHOBIT Day
May 17th was IDAHOBIT Day which is the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism, and Transphobia, celebrating LGBTQIA+ inclusion and campaigning against discrimination.
This week SCSC proudly celebrated IDAHOBIT in our school library alongside our young people and allies. The space was filled with connection, colour, and community, with cupcakes lovingly baked by Baked By Us, a special visit from Larry the dog, the generous support of Surf Coast Youth and a visit from Q Hub.
A huge thank you also to our wellbeing and library staff for helping create such a welcoming and inclusive celebration. It was wonderful to come together to acknowledge the importance of inclusion, respect, and standing against discrimination in all its forms.
Earlier in the week, some of our students also attended the Surf Coast Shire’s IDAHOBIT flag raising ceremony, representing our school with pride and support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Optus Digital Thumbprint
This week, Optus Digital Thumbprint have been visiting our school and delivering engaging and informative workshops for our students.
The sessions provide valuable education around online safety, respectful digital behaviour, cyberbullying, scams, privacy, AI and navigating the digital world responsibly. Students have been highly engaged throughout the presentations and have gained important knowledge and practical strategies to support their wellbeing online.
We greatly appreciate the time, professionalism, and expertise shared by the presenters and thank Optus Digital Thumbprint for supporting our school community in promoting safe and positive online experiences for young people.

Blurred Minds
In week 5, we welcomed Dr James Durl from Blurred Minds to speak with our students. Our Year 7 students learnt about the impacts of vaping, how vaping products are marketed to young people, current laws, and strategies to refuse vape-related offers.
Whilst our Year 11 students gained insights into drug categorisations and understanding the adverse impacts of drugs.
Students also explored strategies and methods to avoid and resist peer pressure and identify pathways of support and how to seek help when needed.
Consent Labs
We value the ongoing partnership we have with Consent Labs and we were fortunate to welcome them back this term to continue to support the delivery of consent and respectful relationships education, with their curriculum aligned programs.
The Consent Labs team are expert consent and respectful relationships educators and have reached over 180,000 people across all Australian states and territories. Students report having better knowledge and confidence in addressing issues of consent after a Consent Labs workshop and learn practical skills they can incorporate into their day to day lives.
Our Year 8 students explored consent in the digital world” and as well as the 'challenge it, change it' workshop, focusing on online behaviour, respect, gender stereotypes, and creating positive culture changes. Our Year 9 students participated in workshops on healthy relationships, empowering them to spot unhealthy behaviours and navigate relationships, while our Year 10 students explored consent, intoxication, communication, and support pathways.
We thank the Consent Labs team for delivering highly valuable and engaging sessions for our students and for the work they to do empower young people and their communities across Australia to actively change the culture around sexual violence.
School Wellbeing Team
Welcome to the new school year! This is a great opportunity to introduce the Wellbeing Team and the support we offer. We’re here to help students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn, whether that’s through a quick check-in, individual support, group programs, or whole-school wellbeing activities. We work closely with students, families, and staff, so please reach out if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s wellbeing.
A new exciting initiative for 2026 is our Wellbeing Self-Referral form. This provides students a private and easy way to let us know they’d like to check in, ask for help, or talk about something that’s on their mind. Support is confidential, and a member of the Wellbeing Team will follow up with the student after the form is submitted.
Students can access this form via Compass under ‘School Favourites’ (the star icon). or via this link - Wellbeing Self Referral Form
