School Captains: Oli and Zoe
Book Week
Three weeks ago, we celebrated Book Week! The whole school dressed up as their favourite book characters, paraded around the track and showed off their amazing costumes. It was really fun because we got to wear our costumes all day instead of our normal school uniforms.
We also had a special Book Week assembly. Each class read one of the CBCA-shortlisted books, chose the one that meant the most to them and presented it to the rest of the school. My favourite costume was someone dressed as Iron Man! It was an amazing day and we hope everyone had loads of fun.
Camp Manyung
In Week 10, the Year 4s and Year 6s spent Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Camp Manyung and to say the least, it was awesome! It was the Year 4s’ first school camp away together and the Year 6s’ final primary school camp, which made it extra special.
We participated in so many fun activities, including the 120-metre flying fox, tree rolling, low ropes, the beach carnival, Bricks and Breakthroughs, Risky Kids and the Amazing Race.
During the Amazing Race, there were coloured postboxes hidden around the campsite, blue and green for one team and red and white for the other. Each box contained two things: a roadblock challenge and a clue leading us to the next box. One roadblock involved getting a tennis ball across a line without touching it, which we smashed, by the way! There were eight boxes altogether and the final box contained a token that we had to bring back to home base as quickly as possible. We are proud to announce that the Penguins won!
The food was also amazing. We enjoyed scrambled eggs for breakfast on the first morning and crumpets on the second, as well as toast and cereal. My favourite meal was the delicious bolognese we had on the second night.
Some of the activities pushed us outside our comfort zones, but we encouraged one another, worked as a team and gave everything a go. We also loved spending time with our friends, sharing meals and laughing together in our cabins.
Overall, Camp Manyung was an amazing experience and everyone loved it. We made so many special memories that we will never forget!
Sports Team: Issy, Claude, Archer, Iggy
In Week 7, the Year 3–6 students competed against eight other schools at the HOLT Athletics Carnival. We had an amazing day, with many students placing first, second or third in their events!
St Columba’s finished third in the percentage award and fourth overall. We were very proud of everyone who competed, encouraged their teammates and cheered loudly from the sidelines. Some students also qualified for the next round at Beachside, what a fantastic achievement!
Tomorrow, we will celebrate Footy Colours Day! After recess, the whole school will walk to the Point Ormond oval for a range of fun activities, including Red Light, Green Light, handball skills and the Longest Kick Competition.
Each grade will have the chance to discover who can kick the footy the furthest, with one Longest Kick winner selected from every grade. The Year 6 students have also challenged the teachers to their own Longest Kick Competition. We do not want to sound too confident, but we think we have this one in the bag, good luck, teachers!

Social Justice Team: Ash, Anastasios, Miles, Aidan
This year, our Footy Colours Day fundraiser is supporting the Fight Cancer Foundation. This wonderful charity supports children living with cancer and their families, including providing accommodation while children receive treatment in hospital.
Last week, we placed posters and QR codes in businesses around Elwood to encourage our local community to support the fundraiser. If you have not donated yet, there is still time! Cash donations can be brought to school, or families can donate using the QR codes displayed around the school and shared on Compass.
Our original goal was to raise $500 and we are very excited to announce that we have already reached it! We would now love to raise as much as possible for this important cause.
A huge thank you to everyone who has generously donated. One member of the Elwood community even donated $100! Every donation, no matter how big or small, makes a difference.
