Uniform Reminder - All Classes

A friendly reminder to all families to please support your child in wearing the correct school uniform each day. Wearing the correct uniform helps students feel part of our school community and ensures they are dressed safely and appropriately for all learning activities. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Prep

Homework expectations

Students are expected to complete one lesson only of Mathseeds each week. The homework week is from Sunday - Saturday. Please see the email sent on 14th July for Term 3's schedule. If a week is missed, do not make it up the following week as the consistency of 1 lesson is tracked.

Reading diaries are checked every Friday. For your child to be marked as 'complete' for reading homework, they need to have read for 4 nights.

Year 1

Lunch Boxes: Students will need to bring a water bottle, snack and lunch to school on Monday in a labelled bag. Everything needs to be able to fit in one bag to make storage and distribution quick and efficient, and reduce the likelihood of losing a water bottle that has been separated from a lunchbox.

Departure Time: Please ensure your child is at school at 8:45am. This will provide students and teachers with sufficient time to prepare for the bus. We appreciate your support with this as the bus will leave promptly at 9:15am.

Homework Expectations

Mathseeds: 1 lesson per week (a new week begins on Sunday)
Reading: 15 minutes, 4 nights per week
Diaries: Please ensure diaries are brought to school every day.

Toys

A friendly reminder that toys (e.g., dolls, fidgets, action figures, sticker books, colouring books and other personal items) are not to be brought to school, in line with school guidelines. This ensures none are lost or damaged. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Due to timetable changes for Term 3, our library borrowing days have changed.

Please ensure your child brings their library bag each week so they can return and borrow books.

Year 3

Homework Expectations

Students are expected to achieve between 200-1000 points on Mathletics each week. It is recommended for this to be completed by Wednesday.

In addition to this, students are expected to complete 20 minutes of independent reading. Each entry must be signed. Students are to bring their diaries every day and place them on their name tags. Their diaries will be checked on a Monday morning.

In-Visits and Excursion Consent

It would be greatly appreciated if consent could be given as soon as possible for Ultimate Frisbee Gala Day, Soccer Gala Day and Pyrography events. Consent for all excursions and in-visits can be accessed on Compass. If you need any support with consent, please see you child's teacher.

Year 4

Homework Expectations

Students are expected to achieve between 200-1000 points on Mathletics each week. It is recommended for this to be completed on a Monday or Tuesday.

In addition to this, students are expected to complete 30 minutes of independent reading per day. Students know to bring their diaries every day. Teachers will monitor diaries daily and reach out to parents should we need your support with this homework.

Library

All classes will now visit the library on a Tuesday. Please ensure your child brings their book bag each week to allow the opportunity to borrow. Books can be kept for up to two weeks if they need longer to finish reading.

Accelerated Reader

By the end of Week 5, we are aiming for all students to be at 60% of their points target. We are impressed with the number of students arriving at school at 8:45am and setting themselves up to take a quiz on a book they've just finished reading.

Charged laptops

Please support your child to bring a fully charged device to school each day. This ensures they are remaining on track with important learning activities.

Year 5

Assembly Performance

Year 5 have prepared a performance for our Whole School Assembly based on our Humanities topic this term, Travel and Tourism. Students are excited to share their hard work with our families and wider community on Friday.

Reading Targets

Students have conferenced with their teacher and collaborated on selecting a challenging but achievable reading volume target for Term 3. Please support your child by asking them how they are tracking. They can show you their progress on the Accelerated Reader website. Students are encouraged to arrive at school at 8:45am. This will support them to read and take a quiz to work towards their reading goal.

Homework Diary

Students are expected to present their diary each day with the previous night's reading homework recorded.

Year 6

Parent Volunteer Call Out

If you are interested in volunteering on our upcoming to excursion to IMAX and Melbourne Museum and are available Tuesday 1 September, please speak to your child's teacher or email Miss Megan at megan.hartwick@smps.vic.edu.au. All volunteers must have a valid Working With Children's Check.

School Uniform

As the weather becomes cooler, please ensure your child is wearing the correct school uniform. Students should wear navy long pants with a long-sleeved shirt or shorts with a short-sleeved shirt. Tracksuit pants are only to be worn on your child's Physical Education day. Please also ensure students are wearing plain navy socks in line with the school uniform policy. Thank you for your support in helping students arrive at school dressed appropriately each day.
