Prep 100 Days at St Roch's! Hip Hip Hooray!
Today we celebrated with our Preps who have been at school for 100 days! They came dressed to impress! We are so proud of their positivity, learning and achievements over the past six months. They are certainly taller and have already added much joy to our school. Our morning prayer was dedicated to these wonderful Preps and their families who continue to enrich our school. They have enjoyed a day celebrating the number 100 and decorated candles because they are 100 days brighter! Thanks to Miss Granland, for you who has taught them for 100 days with deep commitment and energy. She has a special gift and is able to sprinkle her magic over these Preps.
AFL Melbourne Players Visit
Last Wednesday we were super excited to host eight players from the Melbourne Footy Club at St Roch's. Our Year 6 House Leaders had prepared questions with input from students from across the school. The players were generous in answering questions about their early footy careers, their hobbies, favourite foods and even what careers they might be taken if they weren't playing footy at the AFL level.
We welcomed Jacob van Rooyen, Kade Chandler, Christian Salem, Bailey Laurie, Jack Henderson, Thomas Matthews, Caleb Windsor, Max Health and AFLW player Alicia Bannon.
The staff were full of praise for how eloquent, respectful and polite our students were during the visit and wrote to Angie and the Office to say...
"Both staff from MFC and the AFL mentioned how good St Roch’s was to me specifically, so it speaks volumes of the environment you are creating for the children – so thank you!!"
Grandparents Day
On Wednesday we welcomed over 110 Grandparents and Special friends to St Roch's. This celebration falls close to the feast day of St Joachim and St Anne the parents of Mary, mother of Jesus.
This is always a special morning and one the whole community embraces. We thank the P & F for all of their amazing ideas and support and especially Bree Lynch who worked very hard behind the scenes to set up the Hall, create a photo slide show and a brilliant video capturing our Prep - Year 2 students telling us all about their grandparents. It was priceless!
The Hall ,themed around books looked spectacular, with the students making book marks for their grandparents and special friends. A huge thank you to the grandparents and special friends who so generously purchased a book from the Book Fair to donate to our beautiful school Library. We are incredibly grateful as these donations help to keep our Library collection filled with new reading material for our students. It certainly was a memorable morning .
Thank you top all parents, staff and students for making this morning such a huge success!
The books were supplied by Jeffreys Book Store, Malvern. A bookplate acknowledging each grandparents name and donation was inserted into each book.
Gardening Incursion
On Wednesday 29th of July we had School Gardens Victoria visit for an incursion. Students from Year 2 - Year 6 participated in a 50 minute session about the importance of 'Insects in the Garden.' Students had the opportunity to plant insect attracting plants in our Outdoor Classroom area provided by Victorian School Gardens Program. Thank you to Julie Meseha for applying for this amazing opportunity.
Malvern Emergency Food Pragarm
I had the honour of attending the Malvern Emergency Food Program (MEFP) Farewell afternoon tea last Wednesday afternoon. After 30 years of providing such an incredible program they are unfortunately no longer able to provide this important out reach program to people in need in our local community. I was privildeged to meet the policeman who 30 years ago began this program after increased shoplifting in local areas. MEFP have provided non-perishable food parcels to the Malvern Police for distribution as needed.
St Roch's Parish Primary School has donated to The Malvern Emergency Food Program (MEFP) over past years.
Trish Woodman is the MEFP Coordinator and she with her team has always been incredibly grateful of our generous donations. The MEFP wished to sincerely thank St Roch's Parish Primary School for all its support over many years.

Gardening Club is an important component of our Wellbeing Program. Mrs Meseha provides time and space for students to come together in a purposeful and fun way to connect with nature and each other.
