Year 10 News

This term, our Year 10 students have been busy preparing for the transition into their senior years. This term has been filled with exciting opportunities, valuable experiences, and essential steps towards their future pathways.

Earlier in the term, students attended the Job Skills Expo at Lardner Park, where they explored a wide range of industries, spoke with professionals, and participated in seminars and panel discussions. This was a fantastic chance to start thinking about possible career directions.

We also held information sessions with the VCE and VCE-VM Leaders, giving students a clearer understanding of the pathways available as they move into Year 11. With VCE and the new VCE Vocational Major on offer, students are learning how to choose the pathway that best suits their goals and interests.

Families also had the opportunity to attend the Senior Pathways Information Evening and tour the University Campus. This was followed by the Subject Information Day, which ensured every Year 10 student gained insight into the subject choices available for 2026. The final step in this process was Course Counselling, where students, parents, and staff came together to finalise subject selections and confirm the best individual pathway forward.

We are incredibly proud of the maturity our Year 10 students have shown throughout the term as they begin making decisions that will shape their future.

Work Experience

Georgina T & Ruby W, along with a few Morwell Campus students, have been having a great time with their work experience at GHD this week. They have enjoyed this STEM program.

Camp

To cap off an action-packed term, students from both the Churchill and Morwell Campuses will head off next week for the Year 10 Tasmania Camp (September 7–11). Students are to meet at the Morwell Campus by 4.30 am on Monday and will return to the Morwell Campus at approximately 11.00 am on Friday 11th September. We look forward to sharing the students’ adventures in the next newsletter.

Students remaining at school will participate in a modified program tailored to keep them engaged and on track with their learning.

End of Year Transition

Year 10 & Transition to Year 11

Friday 20th November – Last Day of Year 10

Monday 7th of December – Year 10 Formal: Details to be shared closer to the date.

Wednesday 27th November – VET Orientation Day: All students enrolled in a 2027 VET program will visit their Registered Training Organisation (RTO) to meet staff and learn about their course.

HEADSTART Program – University Campus

Monday 23rd November – Friday 4th December

All incoming Year 11 students must attend Headstart. This program introduces students to their new subjects and routines. During Week 2, students will have the opportunity to request subject changes through the Careers Team or their Advocate.

HEADSTART attendance is compulsory for all new Year 11 students.

Course Counselling and Pathway Options for 2027

If your student missed the 2027 Course Counselling evening, an appointment will need to be arranged through the Careers Team at the University Campus. If you require further information about these options please contact Todd Miller, Year 10 Leader, or Tayla Watson, Campus Careers Advisor, on 5132 3700 (option 3 for Churchill Campus). Alternatively, you can contact the senior campus directly and speak with either Cheri Vejler or Suze Benson, Senior Campus Careers Advisors, on 5132 3800 (option 4 for University Campus). 

Extra transition to the University Campus for students that require this support is currently underway. If you feel your child could benefit from extra support please contact Todd Miller, Year 10 Leader, or Amanda Vosper, Disability Inclusion Specialist, on 5132 3700 (option 3 for Churchill Campus).
