Year 9 News

It’s been wonderful to welcome back all Year 9’s for the final term of 2025. The term is flying by, with final semester two assessments in the process of being delivered, and teachers beginning the process of finalising semester reports. Some students are looking ahead to harvest work opportunities as the season progresses. Please ensure you contact the YLC team if your child is considering this, as it’s important to discuss any potential implications on end of year assessments and reports. 

WESTERN REGION GIRLS IN STEM CAMP

On a chilly Tuesday morning this week 9 girls from Year 9 departed to attend the Western Region Girls in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) camp at Ballarat Tech School. Over three days the girls will tackle creative challenges, connect with peers and mentors from other schools in the region, gain real world insight into clean energy and learn skills in laser cutting, robot building and coding. We wish them all the best and hope they have an awesome experience!

VAL FINCH WRITING COMPETITION WINNER

Each year in term 3, Horsham College runs the Val Finch Writing Competition. Val Finch taught at the former Horsham High School for many years, and established the Val Finch Writing Award for students in 1991. Each year students have the opportunity to enter a creative or persuasive piece of writing. We are very pleased to announce the Year 9 winner of the Val Finch Writing Awar for 2025 is Ruben McAnulty. Ruben’s creative piece The School Lockdown was judged the best piece submitted by a Year 9 student. For his work Ruben receives a $175 Shelton and Lane voucher. Congratulations Ruben!

CUP DAY LONG WEEKEND

Families are reminded that students are not required at school on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th November. If your child will be absent any additional days, please ensure you log the absence through the SEQTA app, notify the YLC team via SEQTA direct message or call the absence hotline on 5381 7200.
