Alternate Programs

Dan Garner - Assistant Principal Alternate Programs

A quick blink later, and it’s already four weeks into Term Four!  We are rocketing towards the end of the year, and it’s important that students keep coming to school right until the end of the year so they don’t miss out on essential learning.  If you have any concerns about your child’s attendance, please give us a call and we can catch up and work on a plan.  Please also reach out to staff if you are unsure on what the best program for your child will be in 2026.  We continue to do planning for this, and student and parent voice is very important.

A few important dates coming up:

  • Monday 3 November – School CLOSED (Curriculum Day for staff)

  • Tuesday 4 November – School CLOSED (Public Holiday)

  • Wednesday 5 November – Kim’s class CANCELLED

We also have our awards night scheduled for Thursday 11 December.  Award winners will be notified and invited closer to the date, so continue to put your best foot forward over the next few weeks to keep yourself in the running!

Students will all have brought consent forms home over the last two weeks as well.  These are for Headspace support which will be occurring at school for the rest of the year on Thursdays.  Please complete and return these to your teachers as soon as possible. Reach out if you have any concerns.

Junior Programs

Enhancing Mental Health Supports in Secondary Schools (EMHSS) Program

The college is trialling a new program that aims to support young people who may be experiencing moderate mental health concerns. A consent form and information sheet have been sent home last week for students to sign and return to school if they would like to receive one-on-one support.

Each Thursday U’Nita from headspace will be available to students and has recently been joining the Creekers in their weekly morning walk around the Wimmera River with Louis the Therapy Dog (apologies we don’t have a photo of him yet!)

Blue Group getting out in the Community

Students in Blue Group have been continuing with their community engagement this term by completing activities that are ran by the Centre for Participation which have included excursions and industry tours through various local businesses.

Brad Millar from Petstock toured students through the shop and discussed the five key performance indicators that all employees must aim for how this will influence the experience from customers.

Thank you, Brad for the Industry Tour, with several students showing interest in dropping in a resume soon. After the tour, students had travelled to Natimuk for a walk up to the Mount Arapiles lookout.

McKenzie Creek - Port Fairy Camp

During week 7, eligible students from McKenzie Creek will be attending the annual camp to Port Fairy for two-nights. Permission forms have been distributed to families and it would be much appreciated if these can be returned by Wednesday 5 November.

A reminder that there is no cost for the camp and some students will require a meeting prior to attending.

Absences

Please ensure that if your student is absent from school please send a SMS to either Ben (0475 830 907) or Darcy (0458 304 615).

VET Cert II in Workplace Skills

Congratulations to the 13 students that have successfully completed the final unit of Workplace Skills for this year. They have gained a credit towards their school certificate. Thank you all for a calm and productive class. I hope to see most of you back next year for a second credit. All the best for the rest of your studies…Dave.

Senior Group 1

It has been a busy few weeks with students undergoing PAT tests, work experience and some engaging in Axis Employment Transition to Work Programs. In addition students are finishing off final pieces of work for results entry at the end of week four.

There has also been considerable interest in the new Kindergarten construction outside our classroom window.
