Wear it Purple Day

Wear it Purple Day is an annual initiative that encourages communities to foster environments where all young people feel safe, valued, and included. The day has a particular focus on supporting LGBTQIA+ young people and raising awareness of the importance of belonging, acceptance, and respect for all. It also provides an opportunity to stand against discrimination, exclusion, and bullying in all its forms.

This aligns closely with our EREA Touchstone of Inclusive Community and EREA's Live Life to the Full: Safe & Inclusive Learning Communities Statement, which affirms our responsibility to ensure that every student experiences a school environment where they are welcomed, supported, and able to flourish. It reminds us of our commitment to ensuring that all students, including same-sex attracted and gender-diverse young people, experience a genuine sense of belonging within our school community.

Let us continue to ensure that every student at St Pius X knows they belong, can participate fully in school life, and is treated with dignity, respect, and care.

Anxiety and Young People

Anxiety is a natural and expected part of growing up. In fact, it plays an important role in helping young people prepare for challenges, stay alert to potential dangers and adapt to new situations. It can motivate them to study for a test, practise before a performance, or tread carefully in unfamiliar settings. However, for many children and adolescents today, anxiety can shift from being a helpful response to becoming intense, persistent and disruptive.

The world young people are growing up in is fast-paced and often demanding. Academic pressures, social expectations, family changes and the constant presence of digital media, can all contribute to heightened stress and worry.

When anxiety is left unrecognised or unsupported, it can begin to affect a young person's wellbeing, learning, friendships and self-confidence. That's why it's so important for adult carers to understand how anxiety may present in children. Everyone experiences anxiety differently, and there's no one-size-fits-all solution.

If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

3. Match Rules

  • Qualifier rounds (at home): 6-minute halves.

  • Round of 16 onward (in the gym and assorted classrooms): 3-minute halves.

  • Semi-Final and Final (in the gym): 6-minute halves

  • Draws at full time go to extra time, then a penalty shootout if still level.

  • Qualifiers: a player who doesn't play their match by the round deadline set by their rep forfeits. In the gym: a player not present and ready within 5 minutes of their scheduled match forfeits.

  • Disputes are first handled by the SRC reps for that year group; anything unresolved is escalated to the organisers and respective house patrons and year coordinators.

4. Entry Fee & Payment

  • Every player pays $5 to enter, with the student name section outlining their full first and second name (Nicknames = Automatic disqualification). All money raised is donated to the Mental Muscle Initiative - let players know this when registering them, as it's a good hook for entries.
