Food and Cultural Walk

Year 10 and 11 EAL Springvale Food and Cultural Walk

The food and cultural walk to Springvale on 11 March 2026 provides Year 10/11 EAL students with an authentic, real-world connection to the themes explored in Vietnamese writer Anh Do’s The Happiest Refugee. As students study ideas of migration, cultural identity, belonging, and resilience in the memoir, the market offers a lived example of multicultural Australia in action.

Through observing language use, cultural practices, food traditions, and community interactions, students deepen their understanding of migrant experiences beyond the classroom. The excursion supports EAL learners by strengthening vocabulary, oral communication, cultural awareness, and personal connections to text.
