Performing Arts In Term 2!
Welcome back to Term 2!
A big congratulations to all students who performed at the Red Gum Festival. You did a fantastic job—such bravery, especially after a two-week break with no rehearsals in between. Well done!
Looking Ahead
Term 2 is Eisteddfod season, and we are excited for another opportunity to perform on stage in a professional venue. The Eisteddfod provides valuable experiences for our students, including:
- Receiving professional feedback
- Watching and learning from peers at other schools
- Performing with purpose
- Taking pride in their skills
- Reflecting on their progress since last year
- Building confidence and resilience by stepping onto the stage
Music
This term, we will continue to refine and polish our instrumental ensemble piece, “Going Home”, while also learning a new ensemble work to add to our repertoire.
Our Foundation–Year 2 students will have the exciting opportunity to perform using mini djembe drums. This will also support a broader exploration of African drumming across all year levels.
Term 2 also marks the beginning of our recorder program (you’re welcome, parents!). Students will work towards taking a recorder home for practice later in the term—so be mentally prepared for that! While the recorder often gets a bad reputation, it is a fantastic and accessible instrument for developing foundational music skills and delving into music theory. I’m hoping you will be pleasantly surprised.
Choir
Choir will continue this term as we expand our repertoire and further develop our blended sound. The progress has been wonderful to see—it is truly a joy to be a part of.
We are also very fortunate that Mrs MacGugan has volunteered to accompany the choir. Thank you, Mrs Mac—we look forward to working with you!
Drama
In Drama, students will begin exploring scripted performance, ensemble work and character development. Our goal is to work towards creating another original short play, incorporating elements of dance and choreography—watch this space!
Community Involvement
If you are a parent or member of our school community who plays an instrument and would be interested in sharing your skills with our students, we would love to welcome you into the music room. Please feel free to get in touch.
