Kitchen Garden

Getting back into the Kitchen Garden for term 2 , we were pleased to see some of our plantings from last term really getting going. Our lettuces,  Asian greens, snow peas, silver beet and beans are all growing well.

We soon discovered, however, that our cabbages and broccoli were being completely stripped!! Our grade 3-5 gardeners were amazed to find just how many tiny, little, green, cabbage moth caterpillars were hiding on the plants nibbling to their heart’s content. These little critters are masters of camouflage and lots of time was spent removing the pests and feeding them to the young chickens!

After catching up with the maintenance in the garden and chook shed, the grade 3-5s did some flower pressing.

Grade P-2 followed on from the weeding with planting some more vegetables and herb seedlings that we had luckily been given by the Mill Rd Nursery.

We then made delicious, crunchy ANZAC biscuits.
