Principal Message

Friday 8th August

What a wonderful fortnight it has been at Mitcham Primary School!

This week, our Grade 3 and 4 students returned from their highly anticipated camp to Phillip Island, and it is safe to say they had a fabulous time! From exciting outdoor adventures to the Nobbies, pelican feeding, a visit to Churchill Island, cow milking, sheep shearing and watching working dogs in action, to unforgettable moments at the Penguin Parade, the camp was packed with rich learning experiences, personal growth, and lots of laughter. A huge thank you to Kristy Parslow and the incredible 3/4 team for their brilliant organisation and care - your efforts ensured the camp was safe, smooth and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

We also want to recognise the fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork displayed during the district sporting events this week. Our boys’ netball team, coached by Mrs Steele, and girls’ football team, coached by Miss Cerra, represented Mitcham with enthusiasm and resilience, showing great camaraderie and pride in their efforts. Congratulations to all students involved - you have made us proud!

Celebrating Christopher’s Taekwondo Success!

We are thrilled to share the outstanding achievements of one of our students, Christopher, in the sport of Taekwondo.

During the recent school term break, Christopher travelled to Malaysia to compete in his very first international tournament on July 11–12. He returned with a gold medal in forms and technique demonstration and a silver medal in sparring—an incredible result on the world stage!

Christopher didn’t stop there. On July 27, he competed in the Victoria State Championship, where he earned another silver medal in sparring and secured a place in the upcoming National Championship to be held in Adelaide later this year.

We are so proud of Christopher’s dedication, determination, and sporting excellence, and we look forward to cheering him on as he prepares for Nationals!

Well done, Christopher!

Facilities Update

Several exciting facility upgrades are currently underway or scheduled to commence in the next few weeks:

  • Junior School (BER) Toilet Upgrade - Quotes have been received and works are approved to begin in the September school holidays.
  • Flooring Upgrades - The Prep classrooms, associated wet areas, and Block A will have new flooring installed, with works hoped to commence during the Term 3 holidays.
  • Gentle Play Space - We are currently awaiting a quote for the installation of additional interactive game boards.
  • Fairy Garden - Planning is progressing well and all garden items have now been purchased - stay tuned as this space continues to take shape!
  • Ninja Playground - A solar timer will soon be installed to encourage students to beat their PBs on the course.

Looking ahead, we are also considering upgrades to the breezeway near the Grade 1 portables, and a refurbishment of our much-loved Art Room.

Three-Way Conferences & Pupil Free Days

A reminder that Three-Way Conferences will be held during the week beginning Monday 25th August. These conferences are a valuable opportunity to celebrate student learning and set meaningful goals for the remainder of the year. In the next week you will receive details about how to book via the Compass booking system.

Please also note the final Pupil Free Day for 2025 is scheduled for Monday 3rd November.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school community. We are proud of the continued growth and achievements across every corner of Mitcham Primary.

Wishing all families a restful weekend.

Warmly,

Erin
