Cycle 3 Grades 5 & 6 - 'It's Electricfying'
Last week, students in Cycle 3 and Grade 5/6 finished constructing their model houses with functioning lights, a project to consolidate and celebrate their learning about electrical energy.
During Term 2, we learned about different sources of energy and how energy can be transformed and transferred. We then learned specifically about electrical energy and built simple circuits using wires, light globes, batteries. Some students included switches and more light globes to create a bigger and more complicated circuits.
As a project for the end of this unit, students were given the task of planning and designing a model house with functioning lights. Using shoe boxes, cardboard pieces, other recycled materials and plenty of hot glue, students constructed their model houses. Many added furniture, decorations and one group even added a garage! To finish, students drew on their knowledge of circuit building and were able to add wires, lights and a power source (battery) to their shoebox model houses. The results, as you can see in these photos, were fantastic! Many students were able to include a switch and turn their lights on and off, and a few made a fan as well!

Students should be so proud of all their hard work in this unit – not only did we learn a lot, we also had so much fun!

Prep - 'Bee Investigators'
This term the prep students are investigating Bees. We have started our unit brainstorming everything we know about bees, writing them on pieces of honeycomb and designing flowers with a question we’d like to learn about bees on the inside.
