CWWHSSA Basketball Gala Day - Open Boys

On Friday 7th November, the College’s Open Boys Basketball team competed in the CWWHSSA Basketball Gala Day. The team performed remarkably well, winning all pool games against some quality opposition in Wagga Wagga High School (WWHS), Mount Austin High School (MAHS), and Kildare Catholic College (KCC). They then faced off against a strong Riverina Anglican College (TRAC) side and played very well to claim a 3-point victory and go through to the Grand Final undefeated and face off against Mater Dei Catholic College (MDCC).

MDCC were very strong throughout the tournament, dominating every team they played. In the Grand Final, our team got off to a sluggish start, before regrouping and striking back in the second half to come within 7 points of the lead. However, fatigue, injuries and limited substitutions saw the boys eventually go down admirably in the Grand Final to become the runners up for the competition. Our boys did not get much of a break all day, due to either playing or refereeing in every game slot, so to achieve what they did was an awesome effort!

Throughout the day, Hugo Swan, Zac Robinson and Alexander Yongai led the way for the team, dominating the paint and hitting plenty of three pointers. Positive and tireless contributions from younger players Lucas Joiner, Hugh McCormick and Jed Ward added to the depth of the team, while Joel Azer and Carus Gray managed their limited minutes well, despite carrying injuries into the day.

Special mention to the parents who came down and supported, along with Sophie Buchtmann and Ruby Vidler, who were the officials and managed the administration, scoring, scheduling and results for the entire competition! Also to sponsors Dominos who provided each player with a pizza voucher and contributed to the production of medals.
