Secondary News

The term is flying by, with many events shaping College life over the past couple of weeks. Students have completed their main exams for the year; however, each course continues with important content and learning experiences until the end of term. At assembly on Friday, we reminded students about the value of entering each class with a personal decision to learn, to listen well, ask thoughtful questions, and make the most of their education. Please encourage your children to keep up with their ‘intention to learn’

We’ve also had some events which have been thoroughly enjoyed by participants: Defence Force Day, the Duke of Ed Adventurous Camp, and CWWHSSA Boys Basketball competition. This Friday, Year 8 students will participate in Medieval Day. A special thank you to the many teachers and staff who work hard to enable these opportunities, and to the students who represent us so well.

Please check the links in College Connections Week 3, Term 4, regarding how to help your child with digital responsibility and the transition to the social media changes taking place on 10 December. Parents/caregivers play a vital role in helping their children understand responsible digital practices and keeping safe from unsuitable content and connections, and we hope the links are helpful for you in this regard.

We’re excited to share the following plans for 2026, which students heard about last Friday.

PULSE Classes

Our Homecare time will be replaced with PULSE class. These classes will be year group based and allow for the regular check-in, support and encouragement to help students be prepared and begin each day well. We are also increasing the number of PULSE classes to facilitate slightly smaller groups so that teachers and students can build positive community together.

Year Advisers

Next year we are introducing an important support role to our Stage Coordinators. Year Advisers will have oversight and a close connection with the year group they represent and work closely with PULSE teachers to shape the daily check-ins and encouragements for students. We will have a Year Adviser for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and a combined role for Years 11 and 12 (Stage 6). We look forward to announcing these teachers in due course.

EQUIP Classes

The EQUIP class will be introduced across Year 7-12 and reshapes the current Year 9-12 Careers classes. The classes will focus on skills development across a range of areas, including learning, study, social skills, emotional wellbeing, and preparing for the future. Age-appropriate programs will be utilised to support development and reinforcement of these skills. For Year 7, this class will replace the current IXL class.

Sport

We look forward to reintroducing weekly sport for each year group.

Electives

Students in Year 8-10 have a range of elective options. Current Year 7 students will receive information shortly about the elective options available to them for 2026 as they move into Year 8.  Current Year 8 students will receive this information at the session on Tuesday 18 November (see below), and current Year 9 students will receive an update on their options before the end of term.

Thank you for your partnership with us – please check the Compass calendar for upcoming events, including the Information Session for 2026 Year 9 students held on Tuesday 18 November in the MPC at 7:00pm, the 2026 Year 7 Information Session on Wednesday 26 November at 6:00pm, and our Presentation Event on Monday 8 December at 7:00pm.

If you have questions relating to specific classes, please speak with the class teacher first, and then with the relevant Learning Leader if required. Our Stage Coordinators are available for questions regarding wellbeing, and I’m also happy to answer any of your questions.

Have a great week!
