Reconciliation Week

Last week students and staff recognised National Reconcilication Week. The theme for National Reconciliation Week this year is All In, a call for all Australians to commit to reconciliation every single day. All In highlights that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us have the power to take action and make change. In our setting, this action and change come through the form of education- the teaching of aboriginal cultures, histories, and perspectives.

Throughout the week classrooms engaged and participated in activities including using sensory mats to practice tracing aboriginal symbols, designing their own Reconciliation week posters , listening to Indigenous music, reading and leanring about Wurrundjeri Country as well as significant days such as Sorry Day and Mabo Day.

Room 8 students contributed their handprints and used Aboriginal inspired artwork to create their Reconciliation Week display. Room 8 staff shared-  The Reconcliation Week activities were a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn about and develop an understanding of Aboriginal culture and traditions. We had a lot of fun participating and learning together.
