Library News:

Primary 1

During Library sessions this term, Primary 1 students enjoyed an interactive sensory storytelling experience based on We're Going on a Bear Hunt. Students explored each part of the story through a range of sensory materials and hands-on experiences. They walked through "long wavy grass" using artificial grass, splashed through a water tray to represent the river, brushed past tree branches in the forest, explored sand in a sand tray during the sandstorm, experienced "snow" using bubbles on a bubble sheet, and crawled into a tent to represent the dark cave. At the end of the adventure, students were excited to discover a big bear hiding inside the cave! These engaging experiences helped students connect with the story using their senses while developing communication, engagement and early literacy skills.

Primary 2

During Library sessions this term, Primary 2 students explored a variety of engaging animal-themed stories, including Where Does the Giraffe Go to Sleep? and Room on the Broom. Students listened to stories, discussed characters and events, and participated in interactive activities related to the texts. The use of PODD to support communication was highly engaging, providing students with opportunities to share ideas, make choices and respond to stories. Through these shared reading experiences, students developed their communication and literacy skills while building their understanding of animals, habitats and imaginative storytelling.

Secondary Classes

During Library sessions this term, Secondary students enjoyed reading Are We There Yet? and following the family's journey around Australia. Students were highly engaged in exploring maps of Australia and locating the places visited throughout the story. The text was particularly appealing as it centred on a family holiday and included pets, grandparents and a variety of exciting activities that students could relate to and discuss. Students also enjoyed reading a selection of Pig the Pug stories, which encouraged participation, laughter and discussion during shared reading sessions. Through these experiences, students developed their literacy, communication and comprehension skills while exploring different places, characters and experiences.
