Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers, 

I would like to publicly acknowledge how immensely proud I am of our students and staff who organised and participated in the Vietnam Veterans’ Day commemorative service on Tuesday, 18 August.

It was a deeply moving and significant occasion as we came together to honour and remember the Australians who served in the Vietnam War, including those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

It was a special day of remembrance, respect and community.

Everyday Counts 

The importance of regular school attendance. 

At Seymour College, we prioritise regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers and enjoying all the benefits that brings.  

Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future. 

Students missing school days has a cumulative, long-term impact on their education and life, with absenteeism often compounding into over a year of missed learning by Year 10. In 2025 across Australia, ACARA reported that the national attendance rate for students in Years 1-10 was 88.8%.  

We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships, schoolwork or exams, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.  

If your child is having difficulty attending school, talk to their home group teacher, year level coordinator or wellbeing staffabout getting support.  

We know that parents and carers can be juggling challenges daily to get your children to school. If your child must miss school, notify us as soon as possible via the General Office or directly through Compass so we can work together to support them.

Attendance Competition

We are excited to announce that Omnia has generously funded Gnarly Neighbours to deliver 10 periods over two days of skateboarding sessions at our school.

To make the most of this opportunity, we have decided to run an an attendance competition for all classes and Home Groups. The 10 classes with the highest attendance, measured from this week through to the end of Week 8, will each receive a Gnarly Neighbours skateboarding session on either Tuesday 8 September or Wednesday 9 September (Week 9).

This initiative has created some excitement, while also recognising and reinforcing the importance of regular school attendance across our school community.
