Year 4 2026

Eucharist Reflection Day and Sacrament of Eucharist

Earlier this term, our Year 4 students participated in a special Eucharist Reflection Day, providing an opportunity to deepen their understanding of the Eucharist and reflect on its significance in their faith journey. Through prayer, discussion and meaningful activities, students explored the importance of gathering as a community and celebrating God's presence in our lives. For many of our students, this year also marked the special occasion of receiving the Sacrament of First Eucharist. As part of their reflection, these students have shared their thoughts and experiences of this important milestone.

On Saturday the 30th of May, Skyla, Ned, Lillianne, Soairse, Aniela and I had our First Holy Communion. It was held at Saint Mary's Star Of the Sea in Sorrento. It was a wonderful experience. I was the first person to have arrived at the church. As I entered the church my teacher Mrs Stirling gave me a pin with a cross and a wine cup on it. When we sat down I waited for the other people to arrive. When all the other people had arrived all the children making their First Holy Communion would stand up and move to the back of the church, getting ready to walk down the aisle. They played a fun church song as I walked down the aisle, then when I walked past my seat I sat down with my family. Then we listened to some songs and listened to the holy gospel. I loved reading to everyone the response and the introduction. Then it was time to try the bread. We had to put our left hand over our right hand when we received the bread. After I received the bread I stepped over and ate it. It tasted like a piece of an ice cream cone. After mass, my family and Aniela’s family went to have dinner at the Rye Hotel. It was a fun and holy experience for me and my friends to enjoy.

On the Saturday 30th of May the grade fours made their Eucharist the people that did were myself, Skyla, Saoirse, Aniela, Aleesha and Ned. We all got handed a pin and Alesha did the opening prayer and then Saoirse, Aleesha, Skyla and I did the Prayers of the Faithful. Then Father Angelo talked and then we ate the bread for the first time. The bread represents Jesus’ body.

On the 3/4 Eucharist Reflection day which was on the 18th of May, the 3/4s made bread in a group. In my group it was Riley, Hugo, Albert and I. We also made placemats then after that we read Possum Magic. We all put Eucharist symbols on our placemats. After that I thought it was a very fun day and was so proud of the bread. It was the best bread I have ever tasted.I cannot wait to taste it again.

On the 18th of May our Eucharist Reflection Day me and the other 3/4s made some bread. It was really fun and the bread tasted SO GOOD! The bread symbolises Jesus’ body. Although my friends Tommy and Levi didn’t like it. After that we made placemats with Eucharist symbols all over it. Then we watched a video called ‘The feeding of the 5000.’ Afterwards Mrs O’Shannassy read a book called Possum Magic. Then Mrs O’Shannassy asked us how we could live the Eucharist and we drew how we could live the Eucharist.

On the 18th of May the 3/4s  were making bread because it was Eucharist Reflection Day. I was in a group for making bread with Hao Hao, Lilliane and Flossy. I did the mixing and the others did the rest. After making the bread, there was a big mountain of flour left over but we just swept it into the bowl. I didn't get to taste it because I had to leave early but I wasn’t sad because I got to go home and I wasn’t going to have any bread anyway.

On the grade 4 eucharist night Ned, Skyla, Lillianne, Aleesha, Aniela and myself went to Saint Mary Star of the Sea church to make our sacrament of First Eucharist. We read on the big microphone. We also tasted the bread for the first time. Father Angelo was our priest for the night. We said some prayers and we talked about how we drink the wine that symbolizes the blood of Christ and the bread is the body of Christ. After I did my Eucharist I went out for dinner with my family and I got heaps of gifts. It was so much fun.

On Monday 18th of May it was 3/4 Eucharist Reflection day. We baked bread that tasted like olive oil but it was amazingly good. We also watched the parable, Feeding the 5000 when Jesus fed 5000 people with just a small amount. We then read Possum Magic. We made placemats that had Eucharist written on them and symbols of the Eucharist. Some of the symbols are the cross, chalice, bread and grapes.
