Foundation
Fun with Maths
This week in Foundation, students have been enjoying a range of maths games that allowed students to practise and apply the skills they have been learning throughout the year.
Through fun and engaging activities, students used their knowledge of counting, number recognition, addition and problem-solving while playing with their classmates.
Students have particularly enjoyed rotating between the different Foundation classrooms and working with a variety of teachers.
We are very proud of the enthusiasm and perseverance students have shown as they continue to develop their maths skills through these engaging learning experiences.
Building Confidence with Affirmations
This week in Foundation, we have been learning about affirmations. Affirmations are positive statements that help us build confidence, develop a growth mindset, and encourage positive self-talk.
Students discussed the importance of being kind to themselves and practised creating their own affirmations. Some examples included: “I can do hard things,” “I am a good friend,” and “I keep trying when things are tricky.” Students then wrote and decorated their affirmations to display in the classroom as a reminder of their strengths and abilities.
By practising affirmations regularly, students are learning to believe in themselves, persevere through challenges, and approach their learning with confidence.
Level 1
Level 1 Excursion to CERES 🌿
Level 1 students had a wonderful time visiting CERES Community Environment Park for our Term 3 excursion! It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn about Aboriginal culture, sustainability and our connection to the environment through hands-on experiences.
During the day, students participated in the From My Home to the World program, exploring the traditional knowledge and stories of the Wurundjeri people. Students enjoyed learning through Songlines and Stories, discovering how stories, music and dance can help share knowledge across generations.
Students also explored ochre, learning about its significance and how natural materials have been used traditionally. Throughout the day, students were encouraged to observe, ask questions and connect their learning to the world around them.
It was wonderful to see the students so engaged, curious and respectful throughout the excursion. They represented Level 1 beautifully and enjoyed spending time learning and exploring together outside the classroom.
A big thank you to our parent helpers and staff for supporting us on the day and helping make the excursion such a memorable experience for our students!
Back in the classroom, we have also been busy finishing our book reviews on Pig the Pug and Room on the Broom. The students have been thinking carefully about the characters, settings and events in each story and sharing their opinions about the books. They have worked hard to explain what they enjoyed and support their ideas with details from the stories.
In Maths, we have been developing our counting skills and learning to count forwards using macaroni! The students enjoyed using the macaroni as hands-on materials to practise counting in sequence, making Maths both practical and fun. They were excited to use the materials to help represent numbers and strengthen their understanding of counting.
Level 2
On Tuesday 8th September, Level 2 students headed to Melbourne Zoo as part of our Inquiry unit on plants.
Students had a wonderful day exploring the zoo and learning about the different plants and habitats that support the animals. We had the opportunity to observe a variety of plants up close and make connections between what we have been learning in the classroom and what we saw at the zoo. Students were excited to identify tropical plants in the hot, humid butterfly enclosure and spot Australian plants being enjoyed by the koalas. It was a fantastic opportunity to see our learning come to life!
Level 3
The Level 3’s had the opportunity to participate in a cricket clinic, where they learned the correct bowling technique and practised their ball skills.
After some time to develop their skills, students put their learning into practice and enjoyed playing a game against each other.
It was lots of fun and a great way to get everyone ready for a summer filled with backyard cricket!
To conclude our poetry unit, the Level 3 students celebrated with a Poetry High Tea.
Each student brought in a high-tea-inspired item to share with their classmates while they took turns reading a poem they had written throughout the unit. It was so lovely to hear the creativity and hard work that students had put into their poems and to celebrate their achievements together with some yummy food!
Level 4
The Level 4 students have had a busy and rewarding term, with plenty of opportunities to learn, create and challenge themselves. We are proud of all they have achieved throughout the term.
In Literacy, students finished reading our class novel, The One and Only Ivan. To celebrate completing the novel, they also watched the movie adaptation and enjoyed seeing the story brought to life on screen. They also wrote a book review, sharing their opinions and reflecting on the characters, themes and events from the novel.
In Maths, students have been planning a day at the Melbourne Royal Show using the skills they have developed in Maths lessons. They explored maps, worked with timetables, and calculated costs to stay within a budget. Students enjoyed choosing attractions and planning a day that was both fun and realistic. This learning helped them see how mathematics can be used in everyday situations to solve problems and make informed choices.
In Inquiry, students visited the Yakult Factory to learn about manufacturing, marketing and innovation in a real-world setting. The excursion helped students make meaningful connections between classroom learning and industry practices. This week, students presented their own inventions to the class, showcasing their creativity and understanding of the design process.
Level 5
Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
Level 5 students have been exploring how fractions, decimals and percentages are connected. Students worked together to create a large number line, placing different fractions, decimals and percentages in their correct positions.
This hands-on activity challenged students to compare values, recognise equivalent representations and explain their mathematical thinking.
It was a great way to bring our learning to life!
Level 6
School Fair Fun!
The atmosphere at last week’s School Fair was absolutely electric as the oval came alive with laughter, energy, and an unforgettable line-up of activities. Thrill-seekers bounced with pure joy on the jumping castle, raced down the tracks in push carts, or gathered on the oval for action-packed games of soccer and footy. The crowd roared with laughter at the student pie in the face stall and the teacher dunk tank whenever a lucky throw sent a teacher splashing into the water, while others tested their skills at the chocolate toss and catch the duck stalls or captured hilarious memories with wacky props in the photo booth. For a change of pace, visitors enjoyed peaceful pampering at the day spa before enjoying delicious pizza and an irresistible spread of homemade treats from the baking goods stall. It was a spectacular success that perfectly captured our school’s vibrant community spirit and left everyone dancing and full of joy!
