Year 3/4 in Burnie

The Year 3/4 classes have been busy with a range of engaging learning experiences this term.

In English, students have thoroughly enjoyed reading The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate. The novel sparked many thoughtful discussions as students explored the memorable characters, followed Ivan's journey, and considered the important ethical questions raised throughout the story. Many students were able to make connections between the events in the book and the importance of kindness, empathy and standing up for what is right.

In Science, our Year 4 students have been investigating forces. One highlight was a series of tug-of-war challenges, where students explored the effects of pushes and pulls and how friction affects the game. It was a fun and active way to bring scientific concepts to life.

Meanwhile, the Year 3 students became scientists in the classroom as they made oobleck. This fascinating substance behaved like both a solid and a liquid, allowing students to investigate material properties and explore states of matter. The experiment was a huge success, although it certainly created quite a mess! Thankfully, the learning was worth the extra cleaning up.

It has been wonderful to see students demonstrating curiosity, teamwork and enthusiasm across all areas of their learning. We look forward to sharing more of their achievements in the coming weeks.
