Textiles

The Textiles room has been buzzing with creativity this term, as Year 9/10 students were busy preparing their entries for the Chocolate Wonders of Wearable Art Competition, held as part of the Chocolate Winterfest in Latrobe in August.

Students spent weeks designing and constructing their costumes, drawing inspiration from their favourite chocolates. The competition was highly competitive, and we were thrilled to have two student groups receive Honourable Mentions for their outstanding entries.

Congratulations to Eve Davis and Ellen Brooks-Lloyd, who received the first Honourable Mention for their spectacular costume, Queen of Rocher. Congratulations also to Sophie Waugh for her wonderful entry, Decadent Delight, inspired by Turkish Delight chocolate, also rewarded with an Honourable mention.

All students involved demonstrated an incredible level of commitment and creativity throughout the project. They developed and extended their skills in textile design, construction and problem-solving while bringing their imaginative ideas to life. Congratulations to everyone involved!

Year 7/8 Textiles

Our Year 7/8 students in the Soft Sculptures class were also busy during Semester 1, creating special projects for our Prep students. The students designed and constructed characters drawn by the Preps in their Storytime characters unit, using a range of textile techniques.

The Preps were delighted when they were presented with the finished creatures, which the Year 7/8 students had worked so hard to bring to life. This has proved to be a very popular project with both groups of students, providing a wonderful opportunity for creativity, collaboration and connection between year levels.

Year 11/12 Design and Production and Object Design

Our Year 11/12 Design and Production and Object Design students have been working hard throughout the year on their individual projects.

Object Design students are now approaching the completion of their major projects, which are due in approximately two weeks. These impressive creations will be displayed at the University of Tasmania Burnie campus, providing students with the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity. Why not pop in and take a look at their wonderful work?

Design and Production students are also busy completing their major projects. Students are demonstrating excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship in their work and are thoroughly enjoying the creative process as their designs take shape.

The Textiles room is always a fun, creative and inspiring space, and our students have worked incredibly hard throughout the year to produce some truly fabulous pieces. Well done to all of our students for their enthusiasm, creativity and commitment!
