The Guardian's Best Picture Book Poll

In December last year, The Guardian asked more than 3,000 readers to share their favourite Australian children's picture book. They used this to come up with the top 50 shortlist titles and thus began the 2026 Best Picture Book Poll.

 

From the 27th of January this year, until yesterday afternoon, Australians could vote for their favourite book on the list of titles. Each day, the bottom five books were removed from the list, and the voting would begin again.

 

On Wednesday of this week, only 10 titles were left, and the suspense was truly building. Some having been around for more than forty to fifty years, while others, being more contemporary, were only 4 years out of publication. One of the top ten books is 'Room On Our Rock' by Kate and Jol Temple, the authors who visited our school last year.

 

At 6am this morning, the winner of Australia's Best Picture Book was announced!! The title, which was awarded the most favourite children's book in Australia, with 2557 votes on the final day, is...
