Learning Centre One

Welcome back everyone to the start of the 2026 school year! We hope all our students, families, and staff enjoyed a safe, restful, and refreshing holiday break. It has been wonderful to see our school come back to life, with classrooms buzzing, friendships reconnecting, and a strong sense of enthusiasm in the air.

Our students have settled in beautifully, demonstrating positive attitudes, resilience, and excitement as they return to their learning routines.  As we begin this new year, we look forward to the opportunities ahead — for learning, growth, creativity, and achievement. Together, we are committed to making 2026 a successful, supportive, and inspiring year for every student.

Inquiry:

Students have been learning about the school’s core values, expectations, and the ways we act as learners at OLSC. As a learning group, students collaboratively created a group agreement that connects to the behaviour matrix and reflects the key values of Respect, Resilience, and Responsibility.

Literacy:

In Literacy, students have been reading books for enjoyment and exploring the teachers’ favourite texts in Years 1/2. They have been learning about adjectives to make their writing more descriptive, as well as how to write sentences correctly using capital letters, spacing, and full stops. These skills are helping students become more confident, creative, and capable readers and writers.

Maths:

As part of our learning, students have been developing their mathematical thinking through hands-on data activities. They explored matching items into categories, helping them practise sorting, classifying, and recognising similarities and differences.

Students also learned how to use tally marks to record information accurately. This supported their understanding of counting, tracking totals, and representing data in an organised way.

Take Home Friend:

Across the year, each student will have a special opportunity to take the class friend home. This helps students practise kindness, responsibility, and care, while sharing meaningful experiences with their families and the learning group of the adventures that they got up together
