Wellbeing at OLSC

Welcome back everyone from your holidays, we hope that you had a restful, blessed break with those that are dear to you.

At Our Lady of the Southern Cross (OLSC), student wellbeing is recognised as essential to academic success and personal growth. When students feel safe, supported, and valued, they are more engaged, motivated, and confident in their learning. OLSC fosters a caring and inclusive environment that prioritises mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing. By nurturing wellbeing alongside education, OLSC empowers students to become resilient, compassionate, and capable lifelong learners.

At OLSC, we have two dedicated Wellbeing Leaders to support our students. Kiah oversees wellbeing for junior students from Foundation to Year 2, while Sandy supports students in Years 3 to 6. Both Wellbeing Leaders play a key role in promoting positive mental health, supporting social and emotional development, and responding to any student concerns. They work closely with teachers, families, and support staff to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and confident at school.

Rita as our Mental Health in Primary Schools Leader and worked with Kiah & Sandy. The role is designed to provide a proactive focus for the promotion and prevention of mental health and wellbeing

Positive Behaviours For Learning (PBL)

At OLSC, Positive Behaviours for Learning is at the heart of our approach to student wellbeing and engagement. Through explicitly teaching positive behaviour expectations, acknowledging student effort, and promoting respectful interactions, we aim to create a nurturing environment where every learner feels valued and supported. This approach encourages students to take ownership of their actions, build resilience, and contribute positively to our school community. Below are the matrix's that we use throughout the school to reinforce PBL:

The Foci

The foci for Wellbeing & PBL the first three weeks is:

  • explicitly teaching whole school routine
  • unpacking our school values and what they look like, sound like & feel like
  • building positive relationships with our teachers and peers

  • teamwork
  • creating a learning group positive agreement poster /class charter based on our expectations, using wording from matrix. These will become the goals for the learning group to work on for term 1.

Each learning group is doing this through a Mini Inquiry.
