Wellbeing

We have been focusing on reviewing our School Expectations and Rules, and our routines and procedures to start the term. We have also been talking about the importance of having a Growth Mindset.
Procedures and Routines:
Procedures and routines support a climate of emotional regulation and safety. If we feel safe and regulated, we can learn. Something as simple as having a procedure and rountine to start the day sets everyone up to succeed.
At our school, we have beginning of the day routines and procedures.
Everyone has been taught the expectation of lining up and organsing their belongings before learning begins.
Every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:50-9:00am we have class wellbeing check in circles.
Every day, the classroom teacher goes through the daily plan.
Organised, predictable routines reduce the perception of risk, and therefore, increase the brain's ability to take on and process new information.
What routines and procedures do you have set up at home?
Growth Mindset:
Having a growth mindset helps us to be resilient and cope when things don't work out the way we had planned.
It is having a mindset that supports taking calculated risks and celebrating the learning that we achieve through mistakes.
It is understanding the power of YET.
A GROWTH Mindset is believing in the power of yourself and your brain. You deal with problems or mistakes in a positive way-"have another go", "practice will make me better", "is there another way to look at this?"
A FIXED Mindset means you can't get better at things, even if you practice. Wanting to quit, give up or deciding you're just not good at something.
Have a discussion with your child. Which of the follwing statements show Growth Mindset or Fixed Mindset?
I am not good at this.
I am great at this.
I am not good at this YET, but I will learn.
How can I make this more challenging?
This is too hard.
Is it my best work? Can I improve it?
I practiced and learned how to do this.
This is too easy.
When I make a mistake, I will learn from it and get better
I am afraid I will make a mistake.
I give up.
I can't do this.
I will succeed if I put in effort and find a better strategy.
This is good enough.
I am in charge of how smart I am because I can grow my brain by learning hard things!
I won't try because I might fail.
I am not as smart as my friend.
This will require effort and finding the right strategy.
I need some feedback and help from others.
If I fail I can try again until I succeed!
