Principal's Report

Thanks

It’s with great sadness that I have to announce that Anna Hacker has made the decision to step down from the Macleod College Council. Anna has had a long association with the College as a parent and has been actively involved in (and led) many College committees.

She was president of the Parents and Friends of Macleod College committee for many years and more recently undertook the role as College Council President. Anna’s advice and expertise have been highly valued by the college, and her contributions have had a significant impact in and throughout the Macleod College community.

Student progress

Term 3 began with the semester 1 progress reports going out to all families. The reports were followed up a week later by Parent Teacher and student conferences (PTSC). The College decided on this schedule so that timely conversations could be held regarding semester 1 progress. Can I please urge parents to discuss with their child/children the content of the reports and the conversations held at the PTSC. It is important that learning progress is closely monitored and that timely support is provided if and when it is needed.

Curriculum day

The College held the last of its 2025 curriculum days on Monday 28 July. The main focus of the day was to implement the new Victorian Teaching and Learning model 2.0 (VTLM2.0). The existing Macleod College Explicit teaching model will be more closely aligned to the VTLM2.0 and will incorporate the key four elements of learning.

Planning for 2026

I am currently working with the Department of Education Finance unit, the College leadership team and staff to plan for the 2026 school year. Funding is based on student enrolments so can you please let the College know if you are intending to move your child to another school by emailing 6242-enrolments@schools.vic.edu.au

In addition, students in Years 9 to 11 are now selecting their subjects for 2026. Student choice directly impacts on our staffing profile (what subject teachers do we require to cover all classes). Staff 2026 intentions have also been collected with some staff indicating that they will not be returning next year.

I am hoping to complete my planning prior to the end of term 3 so that I can let staff know what contracts will and won’t be renewed.

Cinderella

Students and staff have been working and rehearsing tirelessly on the upcoming College production of Cinderella. The production is being held in the College Theatre and students will not only be performing, but will also manage the lighting, sound and refreshments during interval. The production will run from 2 until 5 September. Tickets can be purchased through the College website.

College Website

Work is nearly completed on the new College website that will “go live” next week. Emma Wagner has put in a huge amount of hours/per week and the website looks fantastic. Here's an exclusive sneak peak!

Uniform Policy

This was the focus item at the 20 August College Council meeting. Updates to parents will be sent out accordingly.
